That's probably coupled with natural bias you got from how long you've used FL in the first place.Vortifex wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 12:12 pmEvery time I demo another DAW it's always the piano roll that sucks most in comparison. FL's just works the way I'd expect a piano roll to work.Unaspected wrote: Mon Mar 08, 2021 1:21 pm It would be difficult to find a better piano roll. FL Studio's is pretty much the standard to copy.

Agree, thats why I use both.. its amazing how people will piano roll click notes to align everything perfectly ( no I am not refering to anyone that has posted here btw) and then make endless tutorials on how to "humanize" the feeling and swing.xbitz wrote: Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:50 amthe "just to correct" part is quite a "big mistake" in FLsurreal wrote: Wed Mar 17, 2021 7:40 am And by the way I use both a real proper keyboard with real Skill and a piano roll just to correct some misalligned timed notes,
in FL real skill and using the PR are equally useful don't bound yourself to one of them
That why I value musicians that really take the time to really practice their instruments to the point where they can express themselves musically and perform it very well. And I am sure thats why Dynosaur music of 60s to 90's outlasts the flavour of the day that we find mostly these days..YES!! I admit I used to be a Piano, Keyboard and Synth Teacher and I taught music theory and composition to thousands of students in the past and value hard work and effort highly in musicality.
And Yes my newbie questions are about sound design which I have limited knowledge of but I always wanna learn and improve.. so theres that Chk071

One thing I miss in the FL piano roll compared to other DAWs is the ability to color notes by something other than MIDI channel. Like velocity or pitch. Just makes it much easier to visualize what's going on.Vortifex wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 4:09 pm It's possible, but I used Cubase before FL. Other piano rolls often feel finicky to use, like they weren't designed with QoL in mind. The only thing that bugs me about it are the note properties/channel controls at the bottom. Sometimes adjusting modulation can be a pain in the arse.
One piano roll I do like is the one in Mulab.
Another issue is that you can only display ghost notes from another channel in the same pattern. If you want to see the notes of another part in the playlist, you have to temporarily copy it into the pattern.
This makes the piano roll in FL less efficient than other DAWs for me.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Velocity does influence the brightness of the notes - and if you zoom just a touch on the vertical axis then each note will display a bar, where length indicates velocity - and if your screen has a large enough resolution to zoom further, all properties can be displayed on each note.AdvancedFollower wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 9:11 amOne thing I miss in the FL piano roll compared to other DAWs is the ability to color notes by something other than MIDI channel. No solutions for contextual editing so far though - That aspect is lacking in many areas of FL Studio. For audio editing, I would look to most any other DAW.
