Box-Selection keeps hanging up MuLab...

I can't tell, if it's an openGL issue or whatever it might be, but when I have plenty of notes and I want to select them by dragging a selection box over them, MuLab hangs up badly. Sometimes I wait for 4 or 5 minutes, at what time there is a chance that it comes back. This happens both in the sequences as well as on the track view, selecting larger amounts of patterns.

By now I am literally afraid to do that, trying to avoid it at all costs, if possible. "Select All" can help, but if I must select only some, well... it's dreadful.

Anyway, I shouldn't let myself get to frustrated, but over the last few months this has become just a bit too much... I sincerely hope, this somehow goes away with the next version?

Which version are you using? Is that issue repeatable with a certain (minimized) project? If yes then please send me that minimized project together with the steps to repeat the issue. Thx.

That's just it, hmmm... it takes a certain amount of notes, I guess, but it's of course painful to replicate. I'm on 8.7.6, still on Windows 7 64bit with an NVidia GTX970. It feels like it reliably happens, when the box has to be fairly large. Since it technically hasn't crashed at this point, you could still play notes with the keyboard... audio engine is still running. It's just the GUI that hangs.
I will try to prepare a project for you. You haven't heard anything like that happening from anybody, yet?

Post

No, first time i hear something like that. What's your screen resolution?
Looking foward to a repeatable pattern.

I've had it on my smaller screen (1920x1080), too, but this one is 2560x1440.
I'll prepare the file for you tomorrow...getting a bit late. Thanks in advance!

You may be able to imagine how tedious this is. I had made a project with 9 tracks and then put empty pattern in there at random. It may have been around 120 and then the selection properly hung up after I dragged a box around them all. But even after 10 minutes it did not come back, but my CPU fans regularly revved up in random intervals. The pattern outline stayed white, while it never got to turn them "dark" to indicate their selection. It just froze that way.
When I then ended the process tree of mulab, I tried to recreate it and thus far couldn't. I regularly save it to hopefully hit the right moment, but it's still a work in progress.
If all goes well, I will have a project for you at some point. This will then also be a great test regarding the repeatability of it. Chances are, it's some sort of accumulation. Maybe it's some odd memory management thing, list issue or GL problem. I'm only assuming it's my CPU fan that goes off, but it may also be the Graphics board's fans... haven't checked. If it is those, then it will be GL related, which I somehow still sense for some reason.

Yeah, it's insane... Now I've tried it with a pattern, filling it up with doodles... well more notes than it normally takes, but on a fairly empty project is just doesn't seem to do anything wrong.
Something must be accumulating, maybe it has to do with undo? Like some undo buffer thing? I can't freaking tell. I mean, if it already drives me crazy, I wouldn't know what it would do to you, hahaha... but it's kind of a harsh problem, to be honest. You can imagine what it's like, if you work on complex projects and you end up walking on egg-shells.
I will continue to try and catch it in the most simple project for it to happen, which I did already have, but couldn't replicate. But I really can't afford to continue on this quest right now. Possibly later tonight again.

I hope you'll find a hook.

Meh, next time I run into it, I'll see that I reload the project, strip all the vsts and possibly even try to record a little video for you along with the vst-free project. I think, that's the smartest approach.
