PatchWork 2.5: Route MIDI generating VST’s data to external hardware synth…possible?

Hi,

I’m running the V2.5 M1 beta of PatchWork in standalone mode with an aggregate audio device.

One plugin I use generates MIDI from an audio input. I want to send this VST’s MIDI out to an external hardware synth and then bring the audio back into PatchWork via USB audio — but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this or if it is even possible.

I could run another standalone instance of that VST…it has a standalone version with a virtual MIDI out port where you can select a destination for the generated MIDI data — but that seems clunky considering PatchWork is such a tidy little application on its own.

Any ideas? There are definitely tools in some DAWs for this — Live 11, Logic Pro to name at least two.

Thanks :)

The standalone version of PatchWork currently does not have a physical MIDI output, so it's not possible for the moment. MIDI output is currently available only when PatchWork runs as a plug-in.

Thanks for your response. This would be a great future feature to see. PatchWork is such a neat DAW alternative for performers -- MIDI out would make it even more so.

Indeed!

Just saw some other new posts about plug'n'script and got me wondering...

Could it be used as a plugin in PatchWork to send MIDI out -- as a workaround?

As explained earlier in this post, PatchWork standalone has the same limitation regarding physical MIDI outputs at this point.

Is it possible to send to multiple channels? I have a VST in Patchwork sending on 5 channels. Can I somehow send them to 5 tracks in Live?

PatchWork won't modify MIDI channel information at its output, but I don't know if Live is able to filter on channels.

If what you want to do is send the channels to different virtual instruments, you may simply want to have them all inside PatchWork (MIDI routing is much simpler inside Patchwork).
