Click and drag the fluid soundfont to the Tracktion button and wait for Tracktion to gain focus again (ie. don't let go yet!). Drag and Drop the fluid soundfont into the SFZ GUI, where it will instantly load. In the GUI, you will see a button for "bank" and one for "program", which is where you will find your strings patch.
Fluid contains some ".sfArk" files that can't be loaded into sfz. So how can I use these files with sfz?

it's a lossles compression format developed solely to compress soundfonts

(Google is your friend ;-) )

ok, works.

in such a detailed tutorial i didn't expect the most complicated step to be not mentioned ;-)

Crap. My copy of Fluid was already extracted, so I forgot that it originally came in .sfark.

DAVE, I've had episodes myself when what seems like an obvious answer escapes my comprehension and the harder I try to grasp the explanation the worse things get, especially when people lose patience.

My advice to some of us, is, if you begin to lose patience than you are no longer helping the questioner and only exasperate the problem by making sarcastic responses.

My advice to you Dave, is, please don't be afraid to ask questions, I'm an idiot when it comes to the world of software recording and I've appreciated many of the replies I've had in response to my questions.
I'm still an idiot but at least I've had SOME of my problems solved.

You may find it easier sometimes to choose one or more of our members response and pm them regarding anything which you are having a problem understanding.
Think of it as a private tutorial.
regards,
rick

I repeat: there's no problem about asking questions - asking questions is wise...

...listening to the answers as well. :)

Sometimes, it is possible to be listening but not understand what is being said.
I understood in your first reply what was being said, a year ago I wouldn't have.

Dave is obviously new to software recording, he is also a new member and he seemed frustrated he wasn't getting what was being said.

I felt badly for him the thread was going the way it was.

btw, I love ya man. :D

 maybe you're right...

if so I'm sorry if I was a bit too impatient, Dave  :-)

Thanks for your warm words and for keeping the balance, seamonkey  :-D

Thanks to all those that helped on this.
Ok so now I understand a bit more and the sfz post helped and I'm just downloading the soundfont now.
No doubt I shall return
I must say that despite taking a bit of stick its not a bad group and I have learned a lot, I just did it slower than most.
Dave

p.s. I cant always get to my pc so I dont get to read on a daily basis. So to all that offered help and sarcasm I didnt want you to think I was being rude by not answering.

Thanks again
