Please forgive me but I cannot find a solution online.

Using Waveform Free and somehow all my track waveforms look like fat bars where as before I could see the shapes of the waveforms and transients.

I use compression but they werent this thick until last week...I must have hit something to make them display like that.

Is there a setting I hit by accident?

Would you like to append a screenshot to depict your issue?

Is it possible that you accidentally rendered all tracks using the 'render the selected clip/s and replace them' and the option 'pass through plugins' was on, which would have the compressors output levels on the new rendered files.
Maybe you had all audio tracks chosen and raised the gain, which would give the results you are seeing? I don't think there are default keyboard shortcuts set for the 2 above mentioned possibilities, so I'm really unsure if this is the problem.

If things sound ok (not all maxed out) then I'm wondering if you clicked the 'audio thumbnail scaling' button, that toggles between normal and everything shown scaled up, useful if you have lots of quiet audio parts. The button's bottom left by thhe zoom buttons, looks like a fading waveform.
