Currently, multiparameter tab take a lot of space when you first open them as all of them (can be 20+) are displayed at once. Plugins that have a lot of modulators have this too. This suggestion is taken from the Vital Synth, basically only a few modulator tabs are displayed at first, and as you use more the tabs get smaller and more modulators become visible. Picture is attached below.
You could start the multiparameter tab with one column instead of two, and less rows (maybe 4 to 6), and reveal more as people use them. Makes the UI a lot cleaner when people first start a new instance and makes it look much less intimidating. Also can be adapted to plugins with many modulators or buttons.
Extra space could be either left empty to make the UI a more elegant or even used to add some new UI eg. an easy tab for modulators to quickly edit parameters instead of going into the detailed modulator window would be really convenient.

It'd also be nice if each MP was numbered instead of groups of 8(?). Imho opening the metering to get to the modulators is counter-intuitive. You have to open 2 tabs to link MPs and modulators, which happens super frequently.

Agreed. If there are on a few MPs and modulators at the start you can show all of them by default and it'll still look pretty clean.Imho opening the metering to get to the modulators is counter-intuitive. You have to open 2 tabs to link MPs and modulators, which happens super frequently.
Made a quick example using MXXX. I cut some space from the meters, they're sometimes helpful at large sizes but most of the time a small one is good enough. Could be better to have small meters at the start and press the expand button to get a more comprehensive version. Might be able to fit an easy screen for modulators in nearly every plugin if you cut space from multiparameters and meters. Following the Vital example, larger buttons for modulators and multiparameters would be displayed at first (not displayed in this image), and they would get smaller as more and more modulators are required. Once they hit a certain number, the scroll bar appears and allows them to add more.

The idea of a modulator easy screen is, in my opinion, extremely good. It is true that an entire side of the plugin is not needed for metering, that space could be so much more useful for an at-a-glance visual of modulator activity especially with complex patches.

Well, thanks for the feedback, but this is way harder than you might think... just think of the current screen space... Anyways I'll add it to todo list for investigation.

It's quite an undertaking, affects the UI for the majority of plugins. At least it's on the to do list.
