Is there a modulation source in Zebra that gives me a per-note random value? Something like Diva's "Random". It looks like I can do it with an LFO set to random-hold, sync to "free", rate 0 (at least, I didn't hold a note long enough to see if rate 0 would ever change :-) ). However, I like to use lots of LFOs and with 4 non-globals total, it's a shame to burn one on a single non-changing random value per note. Is there anything I'm missing so I can save an LFO?

I'm playing with the demo and have looked through the manual, but haven't seen what I'm looking for yet.

Thanks...

Try ModMappers - random per keypress, more or less. Or, random per note on the keyboard.

Like Urs said, use the ModMappers... it is random enough that nobody will notice that on alternate mode the pattern repeats after 128 steps.

If the perfectionist in you cannot stand the thought that it actually repeats after 128 steps (max step size), then 2 ModMappers used together would be essentially non repeating... but it is really not necessary

(Sorry to revive an old thread, but google led me here)

I've been playing with this and the random value per keypress obviously changes on every key press, but it seems the value is not kept on previous voices. So you play a chord, and only the last value is active on all voices?

Also it seems the mod mapper has no effect on the envelope settings.

I'm trying to achieve having a different and random attack on every note played. I somewhat achieved it with an MSEG and using the velocity to modulate the loop setting, but I've been wondering how to achieve true random values per voice.

I suspect you are listening with your eyes instead of your ears. Although you can see the mapper step up, it is polyphonic i.e. its effect of previous voices is retained. Try a little experiment, modulating pitch to make it more obvious.

Thanks Howard, you're absolutely right. I tested it on pitch and it was super obvious.

Not sure what I was doing that it fooled my brain!

Try ModMappers - it's more or less random per keypress. Or, each note on the keyboard, at random.

@urs, have you made an experimental Urs-bot, because this guy is just paraphrasing everything you say in every thread he's participated in

urs has cloned himself so he can finish zebra3 twice as fast, of course
