I can't even figure out where to save a preset to be used in more than one plugin.

Does anyone know where the elements for each Style are stored so one could for example use the knobs from one style with the background of another?

He's got files spewed all over the place in multiple locations so I don't even know where to look. :?

Only one of the three Melda plugins I own have the new GUI's and I'm fine with that.....
Oh I agree, but from the vid, these are likely the ugliest ones. Some of the ones with just clean interfaces, that is, without the disco backgrounds and such, have been vastly improved (at least from what I can see in the video). (Then again, the ones I prefer might be Argon or something from v14, I don't know.)

I, for one, do care about how the GUIs look, so I'm happy Melda is working on this. :tu:

THe Device list on the left-hand side cannot be changed. To save a preset, just click on [Preset] in the middle of the title bar. Add your own named folder / sub-folder, then Add the preset and give it a name.

In some of the plug-ins (e.g. Sound Factory) you can save Instrument Presets too, so that they are more closey associated with the Instrument.

Each Style is compiled into a single file. To use the knobs of one Style in another then you would need the "Textured Style Editor" (Windows only) to access the source Style files and copy and paste various elements across. Third-party Styles generally do not provide the source files.

So how do you save to the device list then?

Post

In most of the plug-ins the device list is fixed so you cannot save into it; in some (e.g MSoundFactory, MXXX) the device list is built from the devices found on disk. and there are ways of installing more devices (once available) or removing some. They both use "Install Product", in the [Menu] menu.

I would like to see "Device Presets" added to all the plug-ins with custom GUIs (as done for MCabinet).

Thanks but I'm talking about Style Presets. I can save one but loading it back up doesn't seem to work.

To be honest to whole Styles Save/Load system is confusing.

Ok thanks I'll look for the Textured Style Editor. :tu:

So you're saying all the graphics elements....knobs...backgrounds etc are stored in the .mstyle files even though some of them are only 400 or 500K in size ?

Oops, sorry I did not realise that you were talking about style presets. But your screenshot looks different from mine (on Windows 7, here)

All it saves are the 4 colours that you set in the Colour Settings panel. You can add sub-folders on the left-hand side. I tend to give them names that reflect the approach I have taken with the colours (for the background, title bar and highlights respectively). The sets of colours are not named.

Edit: Ah, hold on a moment. Your upper screenshot is of two windows isn't it?

Yes I mashed together two different windows that's why it looks different.

Hmmm selecting a saved file doesn't seem to change anything. I'll keep at it.

I edited my post above with a question about the .mstyle files.

It looks like you have selected a folder. You then need to select one of the sets of colours and click [Load]

And, yep, they are all in the .mstyle files. No, I don't know how Vojtech does it either ;)

If you want to copy a load of Style presets to another Style, then you can [Export] the named folder and [Import] into the other plug-in. Go carefully when selecting the destination folder as it is possible to overwrite the current contents.

And the Textured Style Editor has a bit of a learning curve. ;) What Style do you want to change and to what? If I have the time I might give it a go.

Wow seems like overkill just to save four colors but I did manage to save and load a preset now. I had to double click it to load when I thought the Load button was for that task. Seems overly complicated but I probably just need to get used to the system.

Thanks, selecting a base Style and changing colors it quite easy it's just the file system that seems confusing. If you just change colors and never mess with them again it's fine but any experimenting can lose your customs colors.

Let me see what knobs would go well with what background and I'll let you know what I would change if I could. :tu:

Save your custom colours as a style preset before experimenting ;)

You will see in my screenshot that the colour palettes are in the top-level folder and the main change is in the second column (the Tile and Border). I have done this so that EQs get the green variant, dynamics get the orange one and so on. I set "Allow default colours by plug-in type" to enable this functionality.

Yes obviously but like I said the file save/load system seems confusing at first.

How about the Titanium knobs on the Carbonium background? :)

Just done quickly, needs some fine tuning.

Melda. Voxengo. Etc.

Lots of brilliant developers that somehow can’t connect or employ equally brilliant UX and visual designers. Is it a matter of money or hubris, or both?

EDIT: Didn't mean to throw a bombshell and walk away. I have and use a couple Melda plugins. More esoteric stuff.
