The only difference is that previously, you had to have the license deposited to your iLok *account*, and then you used the iLok license manager *application* to activate the license, via the iLok *cloud services* (ie over the internet to iLok servers), to either your hard disk or your physical iLok *dongle*.

You can still do that, but now there is an additional method that simplifies the above.

Now, you no longer need an iLok *account* (to deposit the license), nor do you need the iLok license manager *application* to activate the license. The software itself asks for an email and activation code, and still (I believe, but haven't personally verified) accesses the iLok *cloud services* to activate the license (I'm not sure offhand whether it still lets you choose to activate to disk or iLok dongle as I already had an iLok account and used that method).

So: the protection is still iLok. You *don't* need to sign up for an iLok *account*, and you *don't* need to install or run the iLok license manager *application* to activate your license. Softube basically activates it via iLok over the internet directly, to save the user some faff.

Exactly and yes you can still choose to activate the disk or the iLok dongle..if you choose the ilok account option.

Sorry, what I meant was - without using the (old) iLok account way - whether the new *Soundtoys* easy-activation method lets you choose where to activate the license too, or whether this new option is disk-only (which I assume it is, from your post...)

Yes I believe it is disk/cpu only.
And I assume you mean Soundtoys not Softube :)

Thanks!

This is really disappointing, I admit I didn't read the specs before buying it as I've never had this problem with my other plugins :dog:

TheNecromancer wrote: Fri Nov 30, 2018 8:36 pm Hi,

Just bought the Echoboy Jr plugin today, new to Soundtoys, new to Ilok, I didn't make it work unfortunately. I received a license key but didn't find where to use it. It requires to install a pace/ilok software which failed on my computer (Windows 7, offline, Cockos Reaper).

Any ideas maybe? (I should probably create a topic sorry for posting here)

Apart from this, it seems that you still need an Ilok to activate the plugin if your computer is offline, so basically, I think I won't be able to use it)

Thanks
I've been messing with this myself. In reading the FAQ on the iLok site, Win7 needs a SP1 security patch in order for the License Manager to work properly. Look for KB3125574. Here's a link:

From what I'm understanding, the non-iLok authorization is only on purchases directly from ST. I got mine form JRR Shop and they don't give refunds, only credits.

But like i said days ago. Contact soundtoys with the questions.

People shouldn't believe you because you're incorrect. I made a purchase from Soundtoys 2 days ago, I chose the activation code method of registration, and I was able to bypass iLok completely. What may confuse some people is that, when installing, the exe asks if you want to link it to your iLok account. If you don't want to link it, just deselect and you're done. No iLok account necessary. 8)
From my understanding, this is true. However, your purchase was directly from Soundtoys. That is the only way to get the new authorization method. 3rd party dealer purchases do not apply. Also, be aware that you can not open a Soundtoys account without an iLok account! Trust me, I've tried. lol It's vicious circle.

Well actually I got mine from Soundtoys and it's the same. If you don't own an Ilok usb key, you need an online computer to activate the plugin through the Ilok licence manager (and you're right, you need Windows 7 SP1 at least, I had to download it to make the licence manager work). So I did that using the wifi of my smartphone via usb...

I have a problem with Soundtoys Echo Boy being installed in Reaper. I bought this from Sweetwater, because I heard they have great tech support and I'm not the most proficient at computer issues. Maybe I should have bought directly from Soundtoys. But when I tried to install it, a PACE Licence Support Win64 window came up. It said " A later version of this product is already installed. To install this earlier version, please uninstall the existing version first." This popped up the very first time and there was no earlier version that I could locate. I even got my son involved, as he's smarter than I am when it comes to these issues. I don't know if the download file was corrupted or what. Under the Reaper plugins folder Soundtoys is listed but no products show up. I tried uninstalling everything, then reinstalling, but the same message comes up. I am currently waiting for Sweetwater to put me in touch with someone that can help. I realize with all the virus hysteria that they must be short handed.

Hi DenO, welcome to KVR!

A couple questions:
- Have you contacted SoundToys? Since you own a legit copy, I imagine they could help even if Sweetwater couldn't. Here's their Installation FAQ.
- Is it possible that the Pace app is referring to itself being already installed rather than EchoBoy? Just a thought.

Just click cancel or click any button to cancel PACE installation. You already have the latest ILOK PACE Licence software installed on the computer.
