Maybe I misunderstand the reference. Are you suggesting this Spencer dude should just be grateful for what he got? (notoriety, alleged trauma, and $200 for his parents)JerGoertz wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:35 pm I'm reminded of a story Mike Judge told once. (Bear in mind, this is my off-the-cuff recollection, but I believe it's (mostly) accurate.)
Beavis and Butthead had just become really popular and a DVD set had been released. As part of this release, some people were hired to do cell coloring on the animations, which was considered menial work that pretty much a monkey could do, but because Mike wanted to celebrate the release's success he gave them each a $500 bonus. Were they grateful for this? Nope. They complained something along the lines of, "The producers and other big names are making millions and all we get is a measly $500."
As I recall this was part of his motivation for creating "Extract," which was kind of the "anti-Office Space" and featured the boss as the protagonist.
actually no, just now drank an island juice, be an hour now for it to kick in...I'm just in a great space, great mood, fun meeting at work...now I am off until Saturday (well 1 hour meeting on Wednesday).vurt wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:44 pmyou high again?Hink wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:34 pm jeez you people are unbelievable...jump on anyone for anything...ooh it's clickbait...ooh it's funny clickbait...oooh...this deserves another

i think the issue he has is with his parents, not the band or label.funky lime wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:49 pm

$1.5million in damages is a bit extreme, yeah. But surely there's some sort of middle ground.

Ah 'spose my take could be summarized (more-or-less) as: Somebody puts in very little work/effort to somebody else's project and wants to be rewarded beyond proportion. (The "trauma" claim stanks like utter bullshit and thus I don't consider it relevant.)funky lime wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:49 pmMaybe I misunderstand the reference. I do find the concept of the image itself interesting and ironic. It seems like it's supposed to be a mockery of capitalism, like being conditioned to chase money or whatever? But the making of the image is literally parents exploiting their child to make money (and a band capitalizing on that exploitation to make money for themselves).vurt wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:54 pmi think the issue he has is with his parents, not the band or label.funky lime wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:49 pm

Experiencing trauma, only to be scoffed at by the world and told that one's trauma isn't valid, is not an experience I would wish on anyone.JerGoertz wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 9:13 pm (The "trauma" claim stanks like utter bullshit and thus I don't consider it relevant.)
I can only speak for myself, but, I absolutely detest such dramatic, exaggerated topics (why do people have to exaggerate that much to make their point? Is their point too weak otherwise?). And, in many cases, I can already tell by the headline who wrote the topic too.Hink wrote: Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:34 pm jeez you people are unbelievable...jump on anyone for anything...ooh it's clickbait...ooh it's funny clickbait...oooh...this deserves another
