Oh, OK then... I gotta get rid of all that analog modelled high end sounding stuff then, because it should have no CPU impact. ;)
Analog modelled doesnt necessarily mean good and high cpu usage doesnt necessarily mean good quality.

Fabfilter is extremely low cpu (reverb as well) and its very high quality.
U-he satin doesnt hit cpu hard, and its the
Highest quality tape plugin available.
Some things simply eat CPU because theyre coded poorly

All of u-he's analog modelled synths are CPU eaters.

Yes, but, nothing goes without taxing the CPU (quite) a bit, when you want to achieve good sound quality.

Any good sounding reverb plugin I own has a significant CPU hit.

I don't know how to convince you to deal with the ilok situation in order to use adaptiverb, but I can tell you it is worth it. It is SO ridiculous. I can't tell you how many times I've put it on something where it takes the entire song to the next level.
you can't.
ilok secured stuff simply doesn't exist for me so it doesn't even induce any GAS at all for me.
It's principle still sounds interesting enough that i would try it if it wasn't iloked or similar. I still don't feel any pressure that something like it should be also available to me as i'm basically fine with the stuff i already have.
This all might sound a bit over exaggerated, but I swear I'm not one to do that. If I had to pick only one 3rd party plugin... adaptiverb, and its not close.
It doesn't sound exaggerated. Most of us have some tools that they think are superior to most other stuff available.
Thing is, this is always also a subjective thing. There are dozens things that people think are the by far the best things ever that gave me a yawn at best. And some of my most precious stuff might do the same for others.
It is however even important that we think so, otherwise we'd always feel bad because we thought the tools we used were sub par and annoying, or at least no magic would sparkle our creativity and urge to invest time with these.
Maybe i would share your feelings about it, maybe not

There doesn't happen to be one ilok free alternative that i might demo to see if i actually like that concept?
Trust me, I've scoured every corner of the internet to find anything comparable to it. Nothing.

Are you on their payroll or why do you have to "convince" someone to buy this product ?

I tend to agree with this statement. The only plugins that sound good to me without hitting hard on my CPU are the Valhalla's. Though they do not sound as good as other more CPU-intensive plugins in my opinion. Having said that, if there was such a thing as a measure of sound quality normalised by CPU usage, all the Valhalla stuff would probably win hands down. I am always amazed by how good they sound whilst using only 3-4% of my CPU ...

Pro-R is also very easy on the cpu.
Voxengo CRTIV is heavy. It does sound lush tho.

Quite literally in love with the plugin. I understand why you might say "are you on their payroll", but everything I said was truthful and genuine.

I'm trying to 'convince' him because I'm trying to help him out. Like, I think he would benefit from going through the pains of ilok just to use adaptiverb... because I want the best for others? idk.

I hear you. I personally was skeptical about it before trying it. It really isn't like anything out there, and thats the truth (not a cliche). So while I tend to agree with "its subjective", I don't think it is subjective that it's high quality, unique, and powerful. Whether you enjoy it as much as I do, that's subjective for sure.

Damn, I thought we were all just using Valhalla now..

You could easily get that impression, in the KVR bubble. ;)

Post

True, but in other bubbles, one could get the impression that you have to use only Sound Toys, Eventide, Waves and other names “the pros are using“ and it is especially beneficial if they are costing a fortune and look as close to some esoteric hardware units as possible some pros were paid to mention.
It surely can't be that less expensive (or even (almost) free stuff) which hasn't been mentioned by Pensado, CLA, Brauer, Katz, or Dr. Dre could basically give equally great results aswell, because these are for the amateurs, not the pros.

raum, replika (freebies) and a reaktor ensemble "dark star 2" that's my soft reverb doings these days.
:ud:

I was half joking but I do still use some old stuff..
Weird coincidence, but by far my two most used reverbs are freebies- Super Massive and Protoverb.

yep, knew you weren't totally serious, but it kept the conversation going :)

i really like the sound of valhalla stuff, and can understand why they are so popular. i just never bought in to them
had enough reverbs before, many in pedal format. still find myself recommending them though, if someone asks for reverb and they fit the budget :tu:
