It is basically a way to raise the price of Omnisphere.

Eh? How do expansions raise the price of the core product?

good on anyone who makes a living "only" from music. This sort of thing is helpful to those looking for new sounds. Anyone else who makes music as a hobbie, dont fall into this trap. For gods sake, save yourself the money and invest it in stocks or crypto or whatever.

whether hobbyists are better off buying samples and presets vs doing a spot more patch programming is one thing. but I'm willing to bet playing these from a keyboard or midi controller is lot more fun that staring at a portfolio going up and down or fretting about whether your exchange wallet is going to get pwned.

Let's find out!

Anyone with Omni 2, tell me what happens if you load this patch, the basic sawtooth and one of the new effects.

NYLON SKY
Not very genre-specific this. Anything that might use a nylon guitar. The patch variations are pretty broad, in the main it's all on the gentle side of things as you might expect.

SEISMIC SHOCK
Any form of dance music - EDM, Dubstep, Trap, the usual suspects. Also pop too.

UNCLEAN MACHINE
(still haven't had the time to try this, but retro obviously - but older sounds are so prevelant in all genres now it's usefulness is pretty broad I'd expect)

UNDERCURRENT
This feels a bit mis-labelled, claiming to be "the darker side". Some are dark, but most patches I've tried thus far aren't at all, but they are utterly gorgeous. Very broad range of stuff here for electronica, soundtracks, pop, pop/rock, alt... almost anything really.

Thanks hoxclab, there's our answer. That's probably the best outcome, the patch will still load just without the new fx.

Yes at least you can then substitute something in the same ball park

All the same I do hope we are going to see new and better effects added that don't require purchasing extensions

But then what are you sharing here? The included sound samples? That's a big no no.

Cause now, if you want the full Omnisphere with all FX, it costs more. If these expansions were a paid upgrade to Omnisphere, the original purchase price would be the same.

This is not a complaint you understand. Developers can charge how they want and do things how they want.

This is how I feel too.
$99 would have made me more willing to invest.

Exactly. You are spending almost the price of an Omnisphere 2 license if you were to buy all 4 extensions.
