Yes, there is an option to subscribe, whoever does that, thinks Bitwig is too cheap and is happy to donate an extra support for the devs… If you got the money, why not…antic604 wrote: Fri Oct 22, 2021 5:42 amThat's probably the weakes argument for why it's NOT a subscription, especially because - if I'm not mistaken - if you buy the Upgrade Plan from Bitwig directly there's an option you can choose to authomatically renew it once it lapsesTj Shredder wrote: Fri Oct 22, 2021 4:38 am A subscription you would have to cancel, as it renews automatically. This is not the case with Bitwig. If you don‘t go to the Kiosk and buy the new issue, you are left to read the old ones…

Oh yeah it’s way too much to maintain for me at least. I could afford it but I’m a tightwad. That’s why I use FL. No paid updates ever. Plus I felt a lot of things with Bitwig while cool didn’t get any real work accomplished. Bitwig, FL and Live are all very creative for me though and I think they’re in the top 3 creative DAWs no doubt.

Hope that's not the only - or main - reason why you're using FL. That would be sad.hoxclab wrote: Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:06 pm...I’m a tightwad. That’s why I use FL. No paid updates ever...

Just an example..

You pay upfront for 1, 3 or 5 years, or combine to get 2, 4, 6... The subscriptions are not automatically renewed. When the subscription ends, you stay on the latest update, just like with Bitwig.

When Adobe started to go subscription in the software world, they should have called it rental. Then we wouldn‘t have this sort of confusion… For sure I will never rent music software. The term „rent to own“ should be called leasing…
Renting software isn‘t more than a paid demo period…

It's not. In most demos you have features cut out, can't save or can't open what you've saved.

Yes there are crippled demos and light freebies… A serious demo is just time limited, the best way to get someone hooked.

I only logged in to answer a statement above from someone that states QUOTE "Complaints about price are mainly from people who just want to get something for nothing" UNQUOTE and that kind of got me feeling miffed because someone who wanted something for nothing would go to some pirate bay alternative with all due respect you know I purchased bitwig 4 point something and to upgrade to 5 is over 300 New Zealand dollars and as someone who doesn't make a dime from music I actually think that's extortionate from bitwig. In conjunction they have taken away the discount from the link on the YouTube channel of mattias so that is really tight of bitwig and I'm beginning to regret buying it and wish I had pulled the money into another DAW. I'm learning the ropes of DAW production and I have purchased most DAWs and have to rely on money from my retail fashion design but not everybody has an extra 306 New Zealand dollars to upgrade to the next version of a DAW they have purchased FULL in good faith. I bought reason 12 and a plethora of sounds from the shop and love the DAW to bits and I also purchased live studio but I also liked bitwig but to suggest that someone who has spent $600 to $800 New Zealand on a DAW wants something for nothing to upgrade for an EXTRA 300 bucks is a tad harsh if they're not earning a dime from anything musical. Someone wanting something for nothing would be R2R reverse to revolutionise I mean come on that's a bit harsh that statement say what you like but that's how I feel.

The remark is indeed a bit harsh but then you fight back with an harsher remark: "that's extortionate from bitwig". They have a business to run...MISSY wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:12 am I only logged in to answer a statement above from someone that states QUOTE "Complaints about price are mainly from people who just want to get something for nothing" UNQUOTE and that kind of got me feeling miffed because someone who wanted something for nothing would go to some pirate bay alternative with all due respect you know I purchased bitwig 4 point something and to upgrade to 5 is over 300 New Zealand dollars and as someone who doesn't make a dime from music I actually think that's extortionate from bitwig. If you wasted your money buying most DAW's, then it is your fault you don't have the money to upgrade Bitwig.MISSY wrote: Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:12 am I'm learning the ropes of DAW production and I have purchased most DAWs

The question is:
You purchase BTW v4… and then you suddenly become conscious of the upgrade price?
I understand the money situation, but if so, you need to be more aware of the ramifications when you invest into something that eventually, if needed, requires upgrading at a cost that was well known at the time of your purchase.

Well well well two posts both putting words in my mouth obviously very touchy and retaliatory and you've both got it wrong for goodness sakes Of course I can upgrade bitwig I could upgrade bitwig a gazillion times I'm not short of money for goodness sakes I'm just saying that I think it's a bit harsh the price to upgrade from 4 to 5. I have much money I'm not rich but I'm certainly not poor and that's for suggesting that my customers might complain about my prices will actually in the last 23 years I've never had a complaint about my clothing or my prices basically because I have a good rapport with my select customers and that's a fact
In my opinion over 300 NZD to just upgrade from 4:00 to 5:00 on a DAW I've already paid full price on is a tad steep and that's my opinion and by the way if you going to criticise my retail dressmaking enterprise or my financial situation in life at least get your facts right because you're both wrong.
Don't assume things just because you think you know me you don't you don't know me at all but I know the price to upgrade bitwig.
And it was my choice to purchase DAWs it's a kind of a hobby you know creating music in my spare time goodness sakes I don't drink I don't smoke I don't party I put my money where I want it but I felt a need to say that I felt bitwig charging that amount of money to upgrade from four to five as a tad steep that's my opinion but if you're going to retaliate by criticising my own personal life for goodness sakes by way of my own retail enterprise and also my own personal finance is of which I find is actually a bridge too far in the personal department then at least get it right you got it ?
Say what you like but I've said my opinion but get facts right about my personal life but be careful what you say.

The beauty of all this is that you are the one not having good time… and it is less expensive than upgrading!

Probably best not to get miffed in the third party. Or do, whatever.
The user can save about $14.60 a month (US equivalent, I think. I'm really tired) or about 49 cents a day, give or take, and the user will have enough money to upgrade in 12 months. The user can also wait a few update cycles like I do, therefore the user will have more time to save and will get more for the money.
That's less than Netflix, HBO Max or Amazon Prime. I have all three.
