Is automation allowed?
Yes, just to add a bit, this month we got a special rule that commercial effects are allowed, normally we only get to use freeware, but from time to time commercial effects are allowed.
Everything from the DAW can be used, but still the effects limitation applies (no chorus, sampling, etc ...)

So here is my submission,

https://soundcloud.com/impedancemusic/i ... 2-whispair

This time something at least a little bit different. Since my chiptune (ok it´s bitpop - chiptune mixed with synthpop elements) is almost always in th classic C64 SID style i thought let´s try something i´ve never done before - the Amiga 500. Since the PAULA Audio unit of said machine is sample based i set up the "rules of my entry" to make every sound used sound like they were sampled from some premixed songs [drums and fx] and a Yamaha DX7. Since I wanted to stay true to the original hardware [More or less] i had a limitation of four usable channels - two on the left side and two on the right. That being said - my mix is terrible and i´m not sure if it´s better to listen on headphones or speakers XD
One thing i ignored is the limitation of one sound per channel. I like doing lot´s of different sounds in an entry since i explore the synth more and my lack of musical skills - ehm- i meant that less sounds make my entry boring over time. Anyways i had probably too much fun doing some more "experimental" stuff. I hope that this stuff sounds at least a little bit like it was done on an Amiga 500 - I´m not really sure about that XD

And I made a terrible cringe video for it:
https://youtu.be/_M4Igw1kY9I

FL Studio 20.5.1
Instances: 31
Key(s): I have no clue.
BPM: 107
Commercial Effects: Nope
Custom Wavetables: Nope
Ladies and Gentleman: Also Nope
Presets: All done from Scratch

Effects:
Master:
Fruity Parametric EQ2
Fruity Limiter

DAW Effects:
Fruity parametric EQ2 [8]
Fruity Stereo Enhancer [4]
Fruity Delay 2 [2]
Fruity Limiter [5] -4 Times for Sidechaining the Noise for the different Audio Channels, 1 time for Master Track-

3rd Party:
Xfer OTT [5]
JB_Omniverb [5]
Analog Obsession Sweet Drums [1]

Whispair made a lot of fun, like literally every single Fullbucket synth i´ve downloaded so far XD Sadly i had some performance issues with the resizable version. It was almost unusable, so i switched to the fixedsize version and it was fine until i hit about 25/26 instances when i got audio cracks and a heavy delay while playback. I could fix it by turning off the "Mix in buffer switch" in FL Studio (fixed buffer size didn´t help btw.) Could it be my Audio Card?

Hope you enjoy :D

Amazing work, everything from idea to implementation! It even made me dig into the history of the chip - I didn't know that one of the first PCs had a chip with samples!) Special thanks for the video, and in it for the wolf, who made me laugh heartily!

Man, I think I'm just bad at making purely instrumental music. It always feels like I need a vocal. And I usually add interesting little flourishes around the vocal line. I kinda like what I have but it feels a little unpolished and repetitive without a vocal. May or may not post what I got before the time limit.

Thank you IV! :)
Yes, the evolution of Audio Units / Chipsets is quite interesting (the classic MOS 6582/8580 from the C64 are still my favorites). Funfact - the Paula chipset was also responsible for writing and reading DD-floppydisks, but I didn't know how to emulate that with Whispair

I sometimes feel the same way like I'm just making a backing track without a vocal and lead melodies don't always suit the style of music I make. Usually I'll try a few things such as a few different parts participating in a call / response phrase to form a kind of narrative. If I can get a kind of synergy between parts and phrases going then it gives it more interest or change up the arrangement so changes occur more often.

Hi all,

This month my tracks has a real band feeling. Inspired by Mike Oldfield and Robert Reed, I made a very acoustic sounding track in a more world music style. The track name is an allusion to the synth name I could not resist :hihi:

I like the synth! I'm not sure what it is about it, but it was fun and easy to experiment with and make some unexpectedly interesting sounds. I started out making a bunch of sounds without a plan, and then found that some of the sounds I was most happy with didn't fit into the track and it was hard saying goodbye to those. I only used the included wavetables. Work time: 17h on track, plus about 5h on preliminary experiments.

DAW: Reaper
Plugins:
- WhispAir x24
