As someone who makes EDM and doesn't play guitar or bass, almost no scenario here is beneficial for me in any way. Sucks, because I just jumped on the Studio One bandwagon very recently and for me it's pretty much perfect as a daw.
Fender is most likely going to draw away resources from the parts that I would find interesting into Ampire and such stuff. Yea well I guess I can always get a used Ableton license if it really goes down the drain.

Yup, if anything that's the scenario I fear. Even now S1 seems to be very much focused on engineers and "band" music recording and although they've attempted to cater to beat & electronic music producers (patterns, loop mode in Impact XT, extended FX chains with splitter, etc.) it felt half-hearted at best. Anectodal evidence obviously, but their support couldn't grasp why would I want to use mid/side processing for anything other than multi-mic recording...flori89 wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 8:02 am As someone who makes EDM and doesn't play guitar or bass, almost no scenario here is beneficial for me in any way. I hope we're wrong and instead the acquisition will allow them to invest more into the development.

Even if it does, I don't see why a company like Fender would push this in any other direction then guitars and basses. So even if they have more resources it will be put into something that has no relevance to me and fellow EDM producers.antic604 wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 9:25 amYup, if anything that's the scenario I fear. I actually kind of felt that Studio One was working to establish itself as an alternative to Ableton, but I fear that's out the window now.
Well I bought the license second hand, quite cheap. Not much harm done. For now S1 is fantastic, let's see what the future brings. If they go down the road I think they will go down, I'll jump ship for Ableton again.

Why? To greatly restrict the target audience of Studio One to guitar and bass players?flori89 wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:07 am Even if it does, I don't see why a company like Fender would push this in any other direction then guitars and basses.
How much sense does that make for you?

I should really collect all the stupid doom prophecies here, and post them in 3 years, when nothing at all happened to Studio One.
And I thought angst was a German thing.

No because they will shift development resources to fit into their bigger picture. And might I remind you that we are talking about a guitar & bass company. Why else would they buy a company? They buy it either to milk it for money or to get specific know how and that's most certainly not concering EDM & beatmaking.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:10 amWhy? They aren't going to push out existing customers, that would be stupid. There a just not going to be any updates anymore that are interesting for anyone who does something else then tracking live guitar and bass.
And yea, that's pretty much what I'm fearing: That nothing will happen anymore to S1. That it will die a slow and painful death over the years because it get's completely neglected.
Edit: Also, yea, that's pretty much what Fender is. Greatly restricted to bass & guitar players. They aren't going to restrict anything, it's called "focusing on core target group" in marketing bullshit lingo.

Bean counters now lurk in the background, their role is to deliver more beans to their handlers.
If Studio One doesn't deliver more beans it will be axed - internally, at first (they call it cost cutting); then, externally with fewer resources invested. The result is inevitable.
Switch to a labour of love, like Babya Logic, pronto.

Ok, buddy. If you say so, then it's gotta be true.flori89 wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:32 am No because they will shift development resources to fit into their bigger picture.
Time to switch DAW's, peeps. flori89 from KVR Audio says that Studio One will be limited to use by bass and guitar players very soon. Like all the hundreds of other DAW's which are only usable for guitar and bass.

This is the reason why it didn't work out when Gibson bought Cakewalk, they neglected focus on the bigger picture and got into financial issues with a string of other bad financial decisions.flori89 wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:32 am

Anyway it looks like we might see S1 users flocking back to Cubase.

Cubase is actually a prime example for "nothing changed" when Steinberg was acquired by Yamaha.v1o wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 12:19 pm Anyway it looks like we might see S1 users flocking back to Cubase.

Let me enlighten everyone about corporate acquisitions. My company was acquired by a huge corporation in 2009. Do you know what changed? Payroll, HR dept, chain of command, and benefits
Our corporation was able to fund tremendous product growth and development. Corporations really only care about incoming revenue, they dont care how you get it. Dont think that Fender is going to change the landscape of S1. They will likely let them continue to do whatever they want to do as long as the revenue keeps coming
