but part of the point is the popularity from an artist, these were popular among parents not aspiring artists :hihi:

a bit off the wall and not really an indicator of anything outside of fashion...

but you rarely see people out and about in t-shirts from many electronic acts, but rock and metal, everywhere!!!

even my own t-shirt collection, has but a few, stereolab (not strictly electronic) and kraftwerk, there may be others but memory fails me.
rock i have a lot more, because it was those gigs where t-shirts would be on sale, every gig! even the local kids who have rehearsed in a garage once, have had t-shirts printed!!!

oh, i do have a couple of lemon jelly too.

Am I, though? These things are intertwined. Let's be real here - we're talking about "pop music". Top 40. The music that makes millions/billions and sells - as a result - the most things that are likely to allow young artists to do the same: electronic music gear (whether that be virtual synths, DAW, or hardware synths/grooveboxes/samplers/drum machines).
And yet, none of my music-making friends are seriously trying to make Top-40-bait pop music. Because it's very competitive and also rather boring.

I strongly suspect that most electric guitar purchases are not for recording projects, but for jamming out cover versions at home and with friends.

Not everyone is obsessed with fame and fortune.

Brief search reveals Asia Pacific region is about half the world's market for physical musical instruments. I would have thought that anyway - and then include expansion of the India and Africa markets over the next 20 years. Not sure on software but I would think similar figures, definitely more in the near future. Breakdown on platform is not easy to find but iOS would be huge I think.
As far as market size comparisons, software for actually composing music is a small but growing fraction of the physical instrument market. Much smaller
I think there are obvious market advantages in the merger with an integration of products across the home music market. Digital, physical and software instrument and studio bundles for home users (guitar plus interface plus software plus monitors plus lessons etc etc)
As far as Presonus goes we have no idea but they are successful already, have a solid range of products in the digital and software realms and I see no reason for them to reduce that offering any more than they might have if there were no merger

even if guitar music is (not saying it is...) the smaller market...
the electronic market is fairly saturated with gear aimed at them in the box
guitarists have been sticking hard to analog fx, tube amps and even recording to tape.
a host directly aimed at guitar, with eg interfaces with built in preamps matching fenders, or similar ideas, would be the first and have that whole market to itself.
so while they may lose a small percentage of a big market, they get the greater percentage of an as yet, little catered for market. just an idea :)
