I really like the new Madeira and Overcast color palettes!

(I know I can do my own but probably won't spend much time doing that :) )

The pandemic has caused delays and slow downs movies, video-games, hardware, food, toys, ect. I don't know why anyone would expect a huge midi/grid overhaul at a time like this from a small team.

Pretty rich coming from someone accusing others of "bitching and moaning" and having "limited imagination" :D
Nice of you to remove the actual quote I was responding to, just so you could take your jab at me. It was quite a doozy.

But yes, it's pretty rich, regardless, I'll admit it's true -- this thread got the better of me and I haven't been on good behavior at all. Curbing that now.

Because software doesn’t involve any of that, you don’t even have to be in the same country as your fellow developers…

That said it’s mildly amusing how people to this day argue way more on the internet than real life. In real life someone not liking something isn’t met with accusations of entitlement etc. or at least it’s not taken seriously and met with hostility back, you don’t end up arguing for days with your friends that use Cubase about how much better Bitwig is etc.

You don't have to like the update, but pretending that covid hasn't affected software development is ridiculous.

This unwillingness to acknowledge facts that might explain why you didn't get what you want might be why some see you as "moaning".

Again, software development doesn't rely on ANY of the supply chain issues that Covid brings, none, zero, zilch. Especially software like Bitwig with no specific hardware requirements.

Name me a supply chain issue that gets in the way of sitting at home zooming with other members of your team? Now if we were talking about Roli Seaboards or some other hardware that relied on factories where people congregate then you would have a point, but the basic fact is you came up with something that sounded logical to you, but when confronted with the hard fact that software development needs no face to face interaction, needs no new hardware or physical components etc. you just dig in your heels, it's cute.

I worked as a PM with 4 developers just at the beginning of pandemic and they were the first to stay at home and actually their productivity increased, because they finally didn't have to travel to and back from the office, we only talked when we had plan to make or issue to solve, etc. Psychologically a lot of them are introverts, who actually perform better if they don't have to interact with others as much.

Yeah, but organisation and synchronisation lacks a lot. Maybe corona is one of the reasons why current development seems to lead nowhere. I don't question their skills, they are genius for sure.

I doubt it's that. They were able to be the 2nd DAW to introduce Apple Silicon support (and it's still better than FL's, Live's or S1's that can't mix native and non-native VSTs), they've added creative way to comp + operators. It's just that their vision and priorities for the DAW seem to diverge with increasingly bigger portion of the userbase, that already had pretty unique set of expectations from a DAW to begin with. I hope they don't think of Bitwig as secondary / complimentary DAW, like Reason Studios seem to :(

That will always depend on the diversity of your production needs. If you are recording orchestra's, large bands with multi mike sets ups, need scoring etc you will probably always need a more standard linear DAW...if you do exclusively ITB, midi based with maybe the odd vocal or guitar track Bigwig (and maybe Melodyne as a plug in) will probably have you covered.

No DAW has every feature, but every DAW will let a musician record music, not a single DAW I know of has a showstopper feature, people (myself included) just like to find excuses for not making music ;-)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

True. And for my particular brand of music there's nothing better than Bitwig in the early stage of sound design and "drawing in" the ideas into clips. But the further from that it gets - arrangement, mixing, "mastering" - the more uncomfortable it becomes. Maybe that's why Bitwig is the only DAW I never finished any track in, but at the same it's also one I have most projects started? Perhaps I should start bouncing stuff out of Bitwig and move that to Studio One to finish it off?

I often repeat that "one should choose a DAW that's the best in what they're doing the most off and pisses one off the least for everything else" and that's true, but the ratio changes depending on the project's stage. In that sense Bitwig is similar to Reason, where it's joy to start the idea but it becomes a slog when project gets bigger and/or you're entering mix/master stage.

Perhaps the ideal DAW is one that's average at all of the project stages? :hihi:

I just found another way to waste time with Bitwig - you can chain multiple Samplers nesting consecutive instances into previous one's Release slot and create a full drum loop triggered by just one note. Don't ask me why, but you can ;) :D
