Hive Feature Suggestion
A new LFO mode - khz (rate knob adjusts up and down) and which tracks the keyboard. Good for a bit of FM type fun and adds no GUI elements or additional parameters.

Hehehe, but then we would have to increase the modulation control rate for the ModMatrix and lose all the CPU advantages that we currently have.

Could leave the control rate as is... call it classic lo-fi FM
I've been doing some FM-ish stuff with the LFO's... getting some organic and unique, compelling percussion sounds!
Even just a faster time based option would be useful. The fastest LFO speed is with 1/64 and the rate knob up and project tempo at 136 (tempo above that stops increasing LFO speed). But then different project tempos make presets sound wildly different. 0.1s with the rate knob up is considerably slower. So even a simple option for 0.01s so that it could reach the current max would be very helpful for saving presets. If it could go even a bit faster (doesn't need keytracking) that would be gravy.

Why not going the synapse audio route with different options for modulation speed? So that the audio rate modulation could be just switched off when it's not needed.Urs wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 2:57 pm Hehehe, but then we would have to increase the modulation control rate for the ModMatrix and lose all the CPU advantages that we currently have.
I do second the Pdxindy suggestion!

It would largely mean a rewrite. The code is written to do certain things in blocks of samples, e.g. parameter interpolation. We can probably compile the whole thing to use a smaller block size. But we can't easily change the block size on the fly. So, by our design, which has pros and cons, one of the cons is that increasing control rate and thus lowering block size doesn't lend itself to dynamic switching, such that faster modulations using the ModMatrix inherently increase CPU load - even for patches where you wouldn't need it. There are pros, too. One of them is a low CPU hit despite the modular nature of our plug-in foundation.recursive one wrote: Sun Nov 07, 2021 4:14 pmWhy not going the synapse audio route with different options for modulation speed? I have spent a lot of time experimenting with various control rate settings in Hive and I'm convinced that for the current set of features, a higher control rate - and the CPU impact this has - is not justified. I'm also precious about the very low CPU foot print of Hive in real world situations, and it would mean a lot of pain to me to give that up.
Hive simply isn't meant to be an FM/CrossMod synth. Not every synth can excel at everything.

Okay, I see. Thanks for the explanation!
In the meantime, when I need fmed/synced sounds in hive I just load the serum ssq wavetable
or some of the factory ones.

That is totally fine...Urs wrote: Sun Nov 07, 2021 4:53 pmI have spent a lot of time experimenting with various control rate settings in Hive and I'm convinced that for the current set of features, a higher control rate - and the CPU impact this has - is not justified. It would still be very useful to have a non-tempo based setting for the LFO that was as fast as the fastest tempo based one. Even a touch faster if possible (without any change to control rate).
I've been getting some unique and beautiful percussion sounds using the LFO at FM-ish rates but it is pointless to save presets cause changing tempo completely changes the sound. So I've been recording single hits and making Sampler instruments.

That’s a matter of taste. Repro is probably the most advanced in that respect, but it also probably the most harshly sounding.

Have you ever considered implementing a Bend +/- mode for Hive wavetable oscillators ? Thanks!

Yeah, phase distorting the wavetable readout pointer akin to what Massive/Serum have.
