Geez, the guy from Roland spent practically half the video demoing the stupid Boutique sequencer rather then playing patches from the JX-08 so we can hear what it sounds like.

Speaking of sound quality, I wonder whether the JX-08 is using the JX-8P Zenology engine. I hope not because that sounds really weak and uninspiring.

Details like that will probably be revealed soon. Especially if Roland is proud of its' sound engine. Good to know it's not up to par. I haven't checked it.

I just read on Instagram that the boutique has 128 voices of polyphony, patch permitting, so yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just the Zenology version wrapped up in a box.

What is patch permitting?

Kudos to Martin for all the work he’s already done / will do in the future!

As I’m in the progress of creating a live rig with my Nord Stage 2 EX 88 + Novation SL61 mk3 with MainStage on my brand new MacBook Air M1, I’ve decided to try using only native Plug-ins - so far, PG-8X is my only plug-in that I would use live that isn’t native.
Furthermore, as it always crashes when learning MIDI, it’s not very useful for my live rig.
I’ve recreated the classic StabBrass with a Jupiter-8 plugin for now

Furthermore, already ordered JX-08 instead of using PG-8X - but maybe the plug-in will be native before my JX arrives… who knows ^^

I’m « test driving » the RC ZenCore Jx-8p model atm which is the same sound engine as the boutique and it can really sound great ! Doesn’t sound the same as pg-8x… quite usual with software synth clones !

there really are some divergences with PG8x, but i dont think its for the better. I actually dont like the envelope stage times/curves on the zenology at all. also not sure i like the way the filter on the zenology sounds either.

The PG-8X nails the JX-8P sound and presets. As the owner of an MKS-70, I just think the PG-8X sounds more authentic than the Roland Cloud Zencore JX-8P model or the JX-08 Boutique (which is the same thing but packaged in this tiny, plastic, borderline unusable enclosure).

Why would a hardware synth have any effect on a freeware soft-synth? Totally different target audiences, I'd say.

Since the soft synth inside the Boutique is the same as the ZC jx8p model, the praise for the Boutique could made the latter more popular and appealing among people looking for a jx-8p software clone (and wanting a scalable UI and VST3, and perhaps a "safer" bet)
