I've not really tied dubstep basses in Falcon yet as I am working on more ambient/film score pack. I don't know how good the wavetables are in Falcon for hard basses, but you might get better results from importing wavetables from serum/phaseplant/massive, ect..chagzuki wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 1:18 pmAs others have mentioned, FM other than sine, plus other audio rate modulation options. Every time I was trying to get a bass patch right, after a lot of experimenting it was always the Phaseplant versions that made the grade, and the Falcon patches sounded too basic. Falcon would be fine for more analog-ish basses, but I tend to go for more aggressive sounds.
I've found Falcon very good for setting up pads or bell-like patches that have variation, or interesting randomness, by both randomising attributes at the keygroup level, and by layer cycling. It also allows for quite sophisticated control of panning.
As far as programming/workflow goes, once I learned the hierarchy, there was no problem with Falcon. Pretty logical and straightforward, actually. I prefer the workflow to some other synths, like Synthmaster, for example. It's definitely nowhere near as fast, intuitive, or easy to program as Pigments, but that's because the options with keygroups, layers, and keyboard mapping is so vast.
The other point I like to raise is that the workflow of ANY synth has an effect on the outcome of a sound, from a sound design perspective. That's why I would probably use Serum or Phaseplant for hard bass, and Falcon for more layered stuff.
