you can do that in bitwigs the gridchk071 wrote: Fri Nov 12, 2021 10:22 am Should it even surprise me anymore, after all these years here, that we discuss Reaper again, in a thread which asked if Logic Pro is a valid alternative to Studio One?
Should I try Logic pro as an alternative to Studio one 5?

I can only tell it from my perspective, and my perspective is that whatever flaws people tell you Logic seems to have are minuscule if any.

I know that Bitwig becomes a dog with stuff like soothe (on Windows), but I don't care about soothe or polishing turds with fancy plugins like soothe, Acustica or whatever, plenty of DAW's can't cope with latency or can't even pull off stupid automation, it's miracle Reaper is one of the bunch that can pull all of it, but I don't really care, would rather have fun in DAW that actually suits me with all the shortcomings, than use one that is mathematically perfect and uninspiring, but YMMV.
Studio One vs Logic, dunno, both are flawed and fixed, it's miracle people get stuff done in any of them really, but they do, I did back on Logic 9 and earlier, that thing was flawed, but so it was Cubase, Pro Tools and bunch of others, there's always something, look at this channel, Studio One gets actually fixed quickly whenever this guys find something, but than they screw up something else and so on, DAW's are piece of work...

That’s the reason why I’ll never use Reaper. I’ve tried it a couple of times, but software engineers most of the time don’t have a clue about usability. (Just add a bunch of options here and there)Passing Bye wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 12:45 am but I don't really care, would rather have fun in DAW that actually suits me with all the shortcomings, than use one that is mathematically perfect and uninspiring, but YMMV.
That’s also the reason why I left FL Studio. Once upon a time it had a vision. The vision of gol, the lead developer. Since he left, there are a bunch of people coding Fl, but they are just code monkeys executing the will of corporate IL
There is a big difference between people who can code and people who are capable of design aswell.
gol could do both, the new team can't

So far, Logic feels more polished and less cluttered than S1 on Macbook.
Included plugins are top notch, few that I tested are better than Waves I usually use.

There's Camel Audio stuff labeled as multi effects, Phat FX is the bomb, try the saturation/distortion modes, such an gem.roman.i wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 9:54 am So far, Logic feels more polished and less cluttered than S1 on Macbook.

Logic just gets better and better - I just discovered (no idea when this was added) if I drag a sample now from the browser to a new track it asks me if I want it to just make an audio track, or make a sampler patch with it, or even an Alchemy patch (including options for spectral and additive resynthesis) right there in the track.

Think that was added in 10.5, with new Sampler and all that, they tackled whole that story nicely.

Make sure you give the Console / Mixer sections a whirl. In Studio One you can drag and drop inserts and such almost without limits, but the view gets really cluttered after a while whereas the view in Logic auto-adjusts. It's a trade-off; I miss dragging inserts from the Inspector to tracks without the Mixer open, but overall I like Logic's better because of its layout. I just produced an entire song yesterday and didn't have to drag handles of view/rack/inspector sections up or down at all. In Studio One you might find yourself doing that a lot, especially on a laptop.roman.i wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 9:54 am So far, Logic feels more polished and less cluttered than S1 on Macbook.

Oh also, Logic seems familiar with the concept of font size and columns. Every piece of text in Studio One is the same height and width which leads to that feel of clutter. Important things like "Timestretch On/Off" and the Event FX display are fighting for space against unimportant things like "Tune Mode", "Normalize", and redundant Bend Marker menus.

I could be wrong, but, whenever I look at some Logic functions, I feel like they have been similarly implemented in Studio One. The step sequencer, for example.

Not the same, but, similar. Of course, there are only so many ways you can do a step sequencer.

They both strike me as inspired by Maschine, honestly, especially how they work with automation. They're smartly laid out.
I do like how Logic worked velocity and note repeat into each lane rather than putting them at the bottom of the sequencer. Although I think Logic's pattern browsing isn't as easy to use as Studio One's variation system.

The Logic development team has been on it the past few years. Tons of great improvements. The Dev team is fresh and forward thinking, not just going through the motions. Very impressive.aMUSEd wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 10:41 am Logic just gets better and better - I just discovered (no idea when this was added) if I drag a sample now from the browser to a new track it asks me if I want it to just make an audio track, or make a sampler patch with it, or even an Alchemy patch (including options for spectral and additive resynthesis) right there in the track.

Although I'm not a FCP user, they threw out their old GUI at one point and completely reinvented it with a while new paradigm. I'm not sure if there were any structural changes under the hood though. I wish the Logic crew would do the same, starting with cleaning out the sewers ( getting rid of the Environmentpdxindy wrote: Sat Nov 13, 2021 2:26 pmThe Logic development team has been on it the past few years. I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?
