I never liked using DP4 much. Way too much window clutter, which is exacerbated by the fact that it's an SDI app (like all other Mac software).
Rewiring to Reason was never a very pleasant experience for me. It took at least three times as long to load up songs while Rewired, compared to running Reason alone. Then there were the annoying dropped notes when running looped. There was also a very noticeable lag when pressing play, which was not a big deal, but was rather annoying.
When I wanted to use MachFive, it took a special kind of track (in addition to a separate MIDI track), and getting it to include the MachFive sounds in a mixdown was not trivial (like it should be). Overall, it has a nice set of features, and it's rather nice for audio recording and manipulation, but to me it just feels clunky.
On top of all that, the system I was using crashed more during the three months I was using it than my home system has in a year. And it happened randomly in the middle of working on projects, too, not just when loading a VST or something like that.
Hell, I'd rather use Sonar than DP4!

my guess would be SDI single desktop interface oposite from MDI multiple desktop interface?
my bad it should read document not desktop
basics of Multiple Document Interface (MDI) applications. MDI applications let you to show multiple documents at the same time, with every document displayed in its individual window.

Yeah. Basically, MDI apps have a parent window that contains all other windows, and SDI apps have completely free-floating windows. I generally prefer MDI, although I would really prefer to choose SDI or MDI for each individual app. Some programs give that option, but I'd rather have the OS control that. It would be really nice to run the Reason rack in one monitor and sequencer in the other, without having to maximize the parent window (and thus block the desktop).

Actually, I'm starting to wonder when the first tabbed interface will show up in a DAW. Visual Studio 2005 handles tabs in such a nice way, I'm hoping tabbed will catch on generally. Hmm, I doubt it'll happen in Cubase, Sonar, or any of those. Maybe in T2?

No problem, ISpe3D wrote:No! It points out how PC centric I am - K-v-R has got a strong Mac core here.
If you look (Ben of K-v-R) noticed I had missed out big names, my fault ok!
Yeah I came from DP, I really like the audio side, the mixer implementation is better than the rest IMO, but the soft instrument implementation feels like an add on. Plus there's only about 30 people at MOTU, that includes hardware!!Warmonger wrote:Overall, it has a nice set of features, and it's rather nice for audio recording and manipulation, but to me it just feels clunky.

/SparkySpark
which means that the first tabbed interface for a sequencer already exists

I'm not convinced that docked windows are really equivalent to tabbed windows. They are similar, but it's not quite the same as having every document (automatically) open in its own tab. Minor difference, and maybe docked windows will eventually work the same as tabbed windows, but it is an important difference to me. I guess my definition of tabbed windows is rather narrow though.
