Docked windows and tabbed windows are not the same. In eXT you create one ore more tabbed windows, then dock VST editors, sequencer window and other editor windows into the tabbed windows...

I call it multipage docking...

first of all: Mozilla doesn't automatically open everything in a new tab - Avant browser does but Mozilla/Netscape was first and I think kinda invented tabbing so your definition might be a bit of a strange one.

And then: what would be the use for it?

It's up to you to define/decide where the opened windows go to just as it should be and when you save your project it stays there - that also goes for templates.

My critic-point about eXT's current implementation of tabbed/docked windows is that you can't dock everything - you neither fx nor editors are currently dockable but I think/hope Jorgen will implement it finally.

What's there right now is only the start and it's a very promising one. :-D

well, err... tabs were available in win3.0 and before. Not exactly as we know them now, since they were at the bottom, rather than the top.. I cannot be sure, but my guess is that the appeared well before that, and thus probably before WorlDwidEweb was written, and thus before Mozilla/Netscape were even needed...

However, I voted for NTrack, since I find it a sturdy workhorse for getting ideas together quickly. I also use Podium, but since we only have one vote, I went for the one I find quickest to use. Podium is a superb piece of kit, but I have a longer history with NTrack..

I'm surprised there aren't more Orion users. While I never got the feeling there were bazillions of them, I was sure there were more than have voted.. although those folks might not use Orion as their "primary" host.

Interesting, all this is.

Voted Other - Audiomulch.

Fits my line of thinking and working like a glove.
Really intuitive for me.

Sonar when I need MIDI for instruments, or editing OMFs, or mixing stuff. More of a production environment.

And I still really need to get EnergyXT. Would be nice in both hosts.
EXT fits brilliantly into Mulch, essentially adding all (and more) of Bidule's midi routing capabilities into Mulch.

Just a reminder post, I will be adding a similar post to each page as they come up, so everyone gets to read it (I have a lot of counting to do :hihi: , but I agree this has proved to be most interesting, thanks for the comments guys :) ). This is for the host you pull up most to get the job done.

I have left out some hosts from the list and have been kindly reminded – but I cannot edit the poll list now that the vote has started – the vote runs for five days (you have a couple of more days left) :D whereby after that it will be frozen to represent a snapshot of current use in the hosts used to get a job done.

If you have a host that is not listed – please select Other and make a post indicating your vote. (if you post more than one host, the first will be counted, if its in the poll list in wont act like another vote)

At the end of the poll I will run through the threads and add up the votes for the hosts that were not in the poll list. So far votes for a lot of Logic, plus Live, Bidule, Buzz and MiniHost etc. have been posted as part of the ‘Other’ listings.

Best regards,

Sonar gets my vote :)

I bought Cubase in 96. Never thought I'd see Cakewalk get bigger than Cubase.

I use sonar 4, probably because I am used to it.
I also have cubase sx2. I think Cubase is overall a better program, the actual cost of ownership appears to be less, but when it is time to start a new song, I fire up Sonar.

I am really curious about the Cubase's in place time stretching, I'm waiting for a friend to make the leap so I can do a test drive.

Live 4 for me, Energy XT is catching up fast though. By the time it gets ported over to Linux I don't think i'll be bothering with anything else.

EnergyXT! its the bomb. I am trying it out in the free version of Tracktion at the moment, to see if the combo is better.

I also use Minihost to dable with new synths and run through the presets.
