Waveform’s Awesome Workflow in a Remix

I’ve been loving Waveform lately. It really shines in its workflow with this remix I’m working on at the moment. Using #groovedoctor to align the midi to the stems instead of forcing a beautiful performance into a square and strictly quantised time.

Tracktion EQ is great and intuitive to use, likewise the Compressor. I adore the Waverazor synth beyond words and that features here too. I’m using a couple of things from outside of the Tracktion universe on this track. There’s the mighty Podolski synth from u-he and there’s a couple of Dragonfly reverbs in the mix.

Another thing that features in the video is the simplicity of pitch shifting as well as using effects directly in regions, cutting, pasting and moving things around. You might think that such manoeuvres would be standard but no, Waveform does this stuff wonderfully. I encounter a strange glitch at one stage, every time I try to cut a particular region, but I resolve it soon after that with a workaround. If you can explain what happened I’d love to hear it!

This video is about an hour and a half because it’s essentially a live video that I deliberately kept as unedited as possible so as to give a proper impression of Tracktion Waveform in action.

I hope you enjoy it.

Mixing is weakest part of Waveform. I understand that authors do not focus mixing, but they can make mixing less painful by improving UI.

This post isn't useful. What would be useful is if you could explain exactly what WFs shortcomings are in regard of mixing and perhaps suggest improvements. Maybe the WF devs would take your ideas on board.

You are naïve, they won't respond to tickets and I paid $$$ for their software. Tracktion software is simply as-it-is - While DAW is not good, some of their synth are nice. But don't expect presets, bugfixes, crash diagnostic from them. You will get occasional bug fix version, that's about it. Its not good value for your money - but sometimes you buy something just because you like it (their synths).

Compare this with what level of support you get from Waves / Steinberg / Fabfilter - these guys really care about their customers.

Well, I'm certainly not naïve and the bugs I have reported have been fixed. They are a small team, so expecting them to compete with Waves and Steinberg is possibly 'naïve'. Anyway, you still didn't clarify the specifics of your grievences.

I would like to agree with the original post and say Tracktion Waveform is my favourite thing ever!

It works really well for me, and that is what it is all about really. Personal preference and ease of use. The team at Waveform have been more than helpful as I got back into creating beats this year - I had paid for Tracktion but now it is called Waveform, so I ended up with the free version that I upgraded to pro a few weeks ago.

I'll stop calling it Tracktion.

Waveform Pro is a really nice tool and I personally haven't found any issues when mixing tracks. I would share a demo of my work but aren't sure of the rules on this forum (newbie, hello) :-)

They have added several features that I requested. And many other features too, of course. Every new version has had improvements that were useful to me.

They take the same about of money (about 200 USD per softsynth). Don't you think they should deliver the same level of service like industry big guys?

Few of them reach the US$ 200 mark; and there are frequently sales aligned with US holidays/events of 40% off...

I'm not sure what part of mixing is not working well for you Trader One. I used Logic, Reason and Ableton Live for years and I really dug into Waveform since moving to Linux last year. I find their DAW Essentials stuff to be excellent. I'll be exploring the stuff from the free version in a video soon. Racks and modulators are amazing things and I don't think there's anything like them in a lot of DAWs besides Bitwig and the likes. I find that I can be quite creative with how I route everything in Waveform, and grouping or folding tracks is great in it. I also find the editing process really straightforward. With all of that said, maybe your needs are different to mine. What do you think could be improved?
