Anyone want my beta test copy when it arrives?
I sure as f**k won't be buying the "upgrade" so there's no point in playing with the beta.

Ignore him Muff. He's a bit stressed trying, personally, to stem the chorus of disappointment at the props forum.Muff Wiggler wrote:lol, for someone who only read the first three lines of my post, you don't have many legs to stand on about 'skimming', now do you fanboy?gmstudio wrote:Muff Wiggler wrote:uh, wow![]()
i got my beta email
and i've never been as underwhelmed with an 'update' in my life
Apparently you didn't read your non-disclosure agreement, did you?
I'm wondering if you skimmed over the rest of the software as thoroughly as you "read" the agreement you entered into when you signed up as a beta tester.

No, ds, I read your post. I just know how to follow the rules. I'm sure they're thrilled that they allowed you to be a part of the beta team and are trashing their product over here.Muff Wiggler wrote:

i haven't said anything that breaks the NDA, and if you think I did, I'd suggest reading it and cousulting a lawyer

... and new sounds from a variety of different sources.Warmonger wrote:It looks like SOS had pretty much all the significant improvments covered, which I think is a bit unfortunate. I really wanted to see a new type of synthesis represented. Oh well, Combinator and MClass do represent two of the biggest categories of upgrades that I wanted.

I just scanned through the new feature list on the props site and am a bit confused. Bear with me as I'm not a Reason user.
The Combinator's functionality, couldn't this already be done with Reason?
From what I can tell, it's just a means of loading a configuration of modules at the same time. But surely you could save/load preconfigured chains of modules before?
Maybe something crucial is missing from their description, but how in the world were Reason users saving their work previously? I suppose I can see a value in the 4 master knobs and buttons, which are like the ones in Rhino, but otherwise I don't get it. Please explain, Reason users, as I'm bit mystified by it.
Also, anyone else notice the physical resemblance between the Kjaerhus Golden series and the MClass units?

Chaining and saving in rns files is how it was done before. That's fine, but it takes much more effort to copy the appropriate devices from a song file. Also, multiple devices couldn't really be played at one time. There was a workaround by using the same input for each of the 4 MIDI input busses, in addition to the main input. However, Reason only records from the main MIDI input. Furthermore, any time a change is made to one sequence, with the Combinator, you don't have to copy and paste the data to reflect the changes in all 5 devices. The Combinator also allows for key splits and velocity splits, which was impossible before.
And yeah, I did notice the similarity between MClass and Golden Series. Maybe that's because of all the posts I made over on their forum about how kick-ass GCO is.

Thanks for the breakdown, clearer now. I'm actually surprised that some of those functions weren't in there already, like just having a midi splitter module.Warmonger wrote:Chaining and saving in rns files is how it was done before. Strange that the two major enhancements go in two different directions, the combinator seems more designed for performance/instrument use, where the MClass is for mastering. Good for Reason-only users I guess to have things fleshed out on all planes, but I would think that Reason as an instrument/compositional tool would be the bigger market draw. Still I guess the MClass is useful as non-mixing effects/filters if those things weren't already there (I've forgotten what pre-VST world looked like.)
Agree on GCO, just amazing.
Cheers,
Steve

And just because they're called mastering effects doesn't mean you can't use them as track inserts. The new compressor has a sidechain, as well as a very useful CV output. The old ParaEQ was only two bands, with no shelving. There was no stereo imaging control at all before. The maximizer should be nice as well, though I've been using the Scream4 Tape setting for that purpose with great results. I guess it will be nice to have a non-coloring (or at least, less coloring) limiter though.

$130 for Reason then? That's not bad.
Reason has always been fun to construct loops. Heck even The Chemical Brothers used the ReDrum (with the Comp) for alot of their drum stuff.
I'm hoping that their new Combinator patches that ship with Reason 3.0 will be able to do things that we would have not thought Reason could do.
The new Remote control support is a good improvement also. I've used several MIDI controllers with Reason and ran into problems when I selected different instruments. With FLStudio I like to MIDI-up Synths, FX Sends, Synth/FX Params, etc... and control them all at the same time without having to switch around.
The mastering effects are another good edition 'cause lets face it, their standard compressor just didn't cut it for any type of mastering use. It was good to beef up a drum track or loop, but not much else... to me anyway.

But that's the problem isn't it - no audio ins. I wasn't expecting them to open it up to VST etc but I did at least expect them to address this very basic problem - what's the point of all the fancy effects if you can only use them to process Reason's own instruments and built in sounds? Now if Rewire accepted audio both ways (Rewire 3?) or it had a nice new audio in module then I'd be more interested. As it is I guess I'll pass on it - again.overflow wrote:btw, I feel that new Limiter is so good, that people will start buy R3 just for mastering purposes
