The folder hierarchies are described in this FAQ: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/faq/index.php?id=1239

Note that within the "Instruments" and "Samples" folders for the ST4, library you will see a folder for "SampleTank 4", and within that sub-folders for the various instrument categories.

Also note that SampleTron 2 and Syntronik 2 go into their own libraries, not into the ST4 library. Here I have 5 separate libraries

Code: Select all

    SampleTank 2
    SampleTank 3 (includes Syntronik (1) and MP2)
    SampleTank 4
    SampleTron 2
    Syntronik 2

N.B. You can put them in the ST4 folder if you so wish - possibly not recommended and do so with care but I've done exactly that! As long as you make sure to maintain the folder structure in Sample Tron 2 and Syntronik 2 you should be fine i.e. I have a folder

Sampletank\

within which are the following sub-folders:

Instruments\
Library Info\
Library Resources\
Multis\
Patterns\
Samples\

If I point Sample Tron 2, Syntronik 2 and Sampletank 4 to that top Sampletank folder each manages to find the respective files in those subfolders

I emailed IKM support and they said not to use an external drive for content! Even though this capability is explicitly described in the sampletank 4 manual. I’m using an external drive now after organising the files correctly and it works as it should.
It’s ridiculous for them to say not to use an external drive.

I got that slightly wrong. What they said was:

“There should only be only the main
SampleTank 3
SampleTank 4
folders listed here usually. Any other locations/sub folders can cause issues in stability. “

I read ‘any other locations’ as meaning you shouldn’t add any extra locations as “only the main … folders” seems to imply you shouldn’t add additional locations.

The manual states:

“ Click the Sound Content tab to set the disk paths for SampleTank 4. You must specify where the SampleTank sound library content is stored on your hard disks. The hard disks may be internal or external. You may set multiple disk paths to allow content to be spread across multiple hard drives.”

Correct me if I’m wrong but “you may set multiple paths” and “only the main … folders should be here” appear contradictory. But the message from support is fairly ambiguous. I probably interpreted it wrong. But they didn’t reply to my reply to that support message so I don’t know for sure.

Whatever. There’s still a bug that causes “instability”. They need to be able to account for an obvious file structure error without crashing.

Well, no matter what IKM may say, the installation of Syntronik (and many other IKM products) is a major pain in the A$$ compared to that of other software instruments.

Ditto.

Sound content installation is a major PITA and their support is (at least in my case) not really helpful.

F.i. - it came as a surprise to them that some older ST expansion get installed in the preset directory no matter what you do.

It just shouldn't be this hard to install stuff where you want it.

Exactly what I experienced
- support doesn't know their own products right
- support has no solution
- installation does not work as they say (Eg. installs into other folders than selected)
- I removed all but freshly installed Syntronik 2 MAX folder -> it's still crashing

What a f****** mess.

Paid 125€ 2 weeks, still can't use it. No real sorry from them or even aknowledgment. I mean it happens on both my PCs. I removed *all* older content folders, re-installed Syntronik 2 and it's still crashing.

I'll just uninstall ST4 MAX and Syntronik 2 and all the data.

Total Studio 3.5 is totally worth it even without ST and Syntronik.

I've checked a few hundred presets from what comes with ST and, honestly, they didn't sound all that good.

Much prefer what I already had and used.

The only thing from IKM that I keep installed is T-RackS, AmpliTube and MODO Bass. The sampled stuff, I have abandoned, as other libraries sound better while using exponentially less disk space.

If I said you are blocked, I won't see your posts. Please kindly refrain from quoting or replying to me.
"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.

My experience with SampleTank 4 is that it's a sluggish bug fest, anytime I try to click on something it takes forever to react, then freezes and crashes my whole project in FL Studio. In the end you are afraid to click on anything at all. Hardly conducive to good creativity.
For comparison I use the free Spitfire Labs app with it's free libraries (a similar product) and it works without a hitch and is very stable.
There is definitely something funky lurking in ST4's code but then again SampleTank has always been like that even with earlier versions, I was never able to rely on it properly.
I appreciate the huge amount of freebie sounds I got for ST4 in the recent GB but what is the point in taking up all that hard drive space if I can't rely on the plugin itself? It needs a proper update.

Syntronik 1 may have slow loading times but it never froze or crashed on me. Transfer that stability to ST4 maybe?

I just upgraded Syntronik 1 Deluxe to Syntronik 2 Max. I got to use Credits and the upgrade was about $108 so that's why I did it. I have quite a bit of drive space, but a 200GB library still seems formidable. I'm guessing that for any given program there would be little chance of needing to stream the audio, but how fast does disk access and reading need to be? Will a 7200 internal HDD drive be sufficient? It wasn't too long ago that a WD Black drive was king of the hill for audio and video applications. I seem to remember not having a problem with Kontakt before SSDs, so can I be comfortable sticking the library on an internal 8TB WD Black drive?

Thanks in advance,
John

I have just one problem. I can't see any synth guis in Sampletank 4. Syntronik 1 in Sampletank 3 I can see them when I press x or small synth picture next to preset name. But it is missing in Sampletank 4. All the sounds play fine but where are all the synth guis gone?

Post

I don’t think ST4 ever displayed those, but you can edit what you can with the regular ST4 controls.
