excuse me please wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 10:26 am Well... at least it's not called "Clapslutz" or "Clapwiggler". But seriously... may be time to grow up.
Which of these definitions requires the growing up, then? Or perhaps its you that needs to do so.
clap verb
\ ˈklap

clapped also clapt; clapping
Definition of clap

I agree that it's usually me who is immature. But really...

Experience tells me, it takes 3-5 days until people get past the connotation with STDs. That's roughly how long it took people to get tired of coming up with new names during our endless Zoom meetings and Discord chats.

I think the final decision was made when one of the big guys jokingly said "we'll support it if you stick to the name". That was a joke of course, not that it happened, but what he said.

Own it, wear it, embrace it.

"CLAP: When you'd rather have an STD than a VST."

Since CLAP seems to be heavily influenced design-wise by Bitwig as a host, how about a dev tool that'd somehow translate a CLAP plugin into Bitwig native device? :hyper:

I’ve said it in the MFM thread, I would LOVE for Bitwig to license the uhe algos the way that Ableton licenses Cytomic and AAS.

The name is pretty bad, good acronyms aren't hard people. Universal Audio Format, Plugin Audio System, Unchained Plugins, Music Audio Plugin, etc. etc. AUF, PAS, UP, MAP are all better and took 2 seconds to cook up... I like AUF, sounds like the German word auf which is still good as on or up etc. :)
All of those are not really that good either. :)

What is the benefit over LV2, an already existing open source plug-in standard?
Is it just a "dev" thing?
As someone who implemented a LV2 client: for the host LV2 is a bit trickier than for the client plugin because of TTL parsing. LV2's "semantic web" roots do a bit too much for extensibility at the expense of consistency in the hosts.
For a plugin framework you do need to generate the .ttl in the build process, it shall contains presets and parameters informations, so it can be a bit tricky (and this step is unneeded in AU/VST2/VST3/AAX).
Though LV2 is ok in my book, I can only applaud for more unencombered formats, especially with a pure C API.

I mean, why are VST or AU any good? I never really think about their fitness as acronyms. CLAP, whatever the connotation, is a real word. So, that connotation will be triggered in the mind of (at least an English speaking) person. Personally, I don’t dig it, but I dig the concept so I don’t really care what it’s called.

MAP = Minors Attracted Person, i.e. a new word pushed by woke academia to "destigmitize" peadophiles... Let's avoid that, shall we?

The 3rd law of thermo-dynamics states that: the 2nd law has two meanings, one of them is strictly wrong, the other is massively misunderstood.

Also stands for "Mazda Advancement Plan", which is a double whammy. Terrible.

The name should be short, memorable and not easily confused with other formats. CLAP works fine.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

I never used the AAS stuff in Live cause I had the plugins. All the Live versions miss a few features.

I'm happy using u-he plugins in Bitwig... especially if Bitwig per voice modulation can work with u-he CLAP plugins!

Yeah took me a while to even google what type of std clap is.

On topic:

This seems really wonderful; ofc it will take a while, but if its easy to compile cross-platform, how will something like Akai Force, Elektron Octatrack etc. look like in a decade 🤯 and eurorack modules, and pretty much all the hardware.
