I think even Kontakt's manual mentions Tone Machine using granular synthesis. Look it up.

As for Variphase, https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... stcount=16

That said, PSOLA could also be considered a form of granular processing, in a way...
Thank you, EvilDragon, you are very kind. May I ask you sincerely if you own a V-Synth or VP-9000 or VariOS?

Because I checked it right now. If I use Time Machine (no matter if 1,2 or pro) the fundamental of the vocal phrase is not auto tuned, the base pitch information is not removed.

But Tone Machine is doing that. That is a very important part of VariPhrase, it is a key point, to make a vocal phrase sample playable legato.

That means if I want to achieve this kind of behavior, I have fist to autotune my sample manually.

For example using Waves Tune or Melodyne.

I am very pleased to discuss the topic with you. I purchased a V-Synth GT, one year ago.

The reason was, that I was not so satisfied with the TC-Helicon Perform VE. It has also a vocal phrase synthesizer, but it’s memory capacity is to less. Only 15 seconds of mono audio.

By the way… The Roland robot effect is very good. This kind of offline autotune works very nice.

DrFolder wrote: Sat Dec 18, 2021 12:11 pm Maybe look at Native Instruments Form.
With NI Form, is it possible to play a sample legato without retriggering it, in a polyphonic way, similar to NI Kontakt „Tone Machine“?

With NI Form, is it possible to remove the changes of the fundamental frequencies of a sample, similar to NI Kontakt Tone Machine (Autotune)?

If so, I would choose NI Form over NI Kontakt.

Thank you.

Yes on both accounts. And then some! I dare say I think it can do more than VariPhase can.

BTW I don't have a V-Synth, but I know what it can do. I do want to get an XT at some point... Freezing the pitch of a sample is just one of the things you can do with PSOLA/granular, really. So Tone Machine in Kontakt is meant to give a sense of pitch to percussive/atonal sounds (try it on a drum loop!). That's why you're linking it to VariPhase (it does one aspect of it). I'm just saying, implementation-wise, Tone Machine is granular, and what VariPhase is doing is PSOLA. PSOLA in Time Machine 2 is being used differently - to retain the pitch markers in the sample, but change the playback speed while retaining the pitch envelope. You can also do the same thing with VariPhase.

Native Instruments Form Walk Through
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I think all these alternatives miss one function, and that is auto-advance. With VariAudio you can play slices one after another with each key press
So hit a D# and you play slice one as D#, hit another key, now E, and the second slice plays an E.

Pretty cool stuff. Besides that, with any sample fixed in key you can do chords and legato pretty close to VariAudio with those plugins that can do it. At least good enough not to require an $800 investment in the old sampler with obsolete computer software.

You can definitely do that slice stuff in Kontakt. Many other virtual samplers can also do it.

In Form you can do this by utilizing the Perform section, each of the 12 keys can have completely different start/end points for sample playback, effectively giving you slices you want to work with.

hey,
picked up this post because serato sample got in version 1.3 a glide and sustain option in keyboard mode. you can do variphrase stuff now.

You are actually a very smart guy who teaches other people like a lecturer.
