is it not something about wavtable technology in general ? i think i never heard a wabetable synth that sound as nice as a good analog oscillator in the low and low mids but could be wrong but wavetable synth tend to be weak there.. even if you import a nice analog saw , as soon as it s in a wavetable osc it sound worst from my experienceVortifex wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 4:04 pm I still feel like there's something missing from the frequency spectrum of Pigments, mostly in the lower end. Not in the sense that it's tinny or overly bright, but a lot of its sounds feel hollow and lack oomph in a way that's hard to describe. It's weird because I look at SPAN and the frequencies are there, it just feels like they're not. That's how I perceive it anyway.
Arturia Pigments 3 is out!

Yeah, Pigments can definitely bring the beef, but you’ll have to add it yourself, because it can definitely be very clear and clean as well. My only “problem” with pigments is that I don’t find the filters all that great (and that’s my issue with Arturia synths in general). I use TAL J-8 instead of Jup 8v, I use Softube model 84 and 72 instead of the Arturia versions, etc. Especially the resonance, I don’t like the Arturia resonance but I’m really picky with digital soft synth resonance in general (my vintage analogs are SH101 and Juno 106). So, with pigments I don’t really go there with the filters. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that pigments is my most used wavetable. Massive X has the best sound quality in my opinion, and Serum some unique features, but pigments is fast and besides my resonance neurosis sounds great.

Have you tried Waves Codex wavetable synth? Seems to have a bit of beef.
I agree that Pigments can bring it if you add it. It seems that the factory presets are all programmed to be "polite".

I sent Arturia an email about the price issue. I received a quick response which said that it would be relayed to the appropriate departments. We'll see, I guess.jsp1979 wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 8:56 pmThanks for that info. So it seems, once again, that their system is not acknowledging that some people already own Pigments. They should really fix that.zzz00m wrote: Sun Dec 19, 2021 8:36 pm As a current Pigments owner, when I sign in to my Arturia account, I see the "Crossgrade to Energy Triad Bundle" for $29.99 under "My Special Offers".

They seemed to have lowered the sound quality to satisfy the edm crowd. It does sound less weighty and more thin. That's what happens when you get in bed with edm. They need to load 60 instances of super saw on their laptops.

I'm just trying out the new update, and noticed it doesn't seem to have the high fidelity I heard with it the first time through. I'm putting up against the other dozen or so in my rack tonight. There is an easy way to fix this, give it adjustable audio rates.
In the mean time I'll add a distortion unit and a tilt eq.

Uhm, well. I don't have Pigments so can't say anything but I remember you were talking the same thing about different Spire versions - which didn't stand the direct comparison between these versions.Dasheesh wrote: Tue Dec 21, 2021 9:35 am I'm just trying out the new update, and noticed it doesn't seem to have the high fidelity I heard with it the first time through.
I don't think Pigments has much to do with EDM anyway, seems a "genre neutral" synth, probaby mostly aimed at various pads/textures/ambient sounds rather than anything strictly EDM-related.
Ofc, unless by "edm crowd" you just mean the source of everything bad and evil in this world.

well, I'm very fearful when the preset crowd takes an interest in an instrument I'm exploring. I just bought a new house and am setting up the new studio in a new environment, so that might have something to do with it as well. Maybe it's not down graded, but just "changed". As far as spire is concerned, I've always been on record as saying it has some of the best filters out there. That's why I bought it, and what drew me to it. when I started trying to fm and am things got real messy tho, and I understood immediately it's because it was not based on oversampling. That's a result of the edm crowd. If you think you are tired of hearing me preach against the evils of edm, you should try listening to it for the last 20 years... knowing what came before it. I'm trying to pass on experience here, not sell you things. The only reason is I'm sick to death.... to death.... of this cosmetic, media drivel environment we live in. It's complete self centered immediate gratification hog wash. The only reason you have preset designers is because of immediate gratification. The only reason edm existed is because of desperate people. calm yourselves. turn off your interwebz, and get some history. make sure what you throw into the world is worth throwing, because it sticks with you for life. You will be judged (not by me), so ask yourself if you are here for the now, or the long term. Stop throwing spaghetti at the wall. It never sticks for long. make what ever you want, but spend on the real.

I'm not the one pushing sandstorm and animals into the world am I? I'm not the one who's lyrics go "bitch money money bitch nikka suck my dick money money, I'm a gangsta" am I? I'm not the one pushing the expected copy cats on you. I only introduce what's lasted.
