The workaround is simple enough:
1. Download ROLI Connect from https://roli.com/start
2. Run the downloaded ROLI Connect General Edition-1.1.0.dmg
3. When the window has opened, double-click on the ROLI Connect app (don't drag it into the Applications folder)
4. Complete the Connect installation, then reattempt a software or soundpack installation

Ugh - spoke too soon... Now when I run Equator either in a DAW or standalone, it says can't find a license, prompts me to open ROLI Connect, which shows it as licensed, but it still won't open. So then I uninstalled/reinstalled Roli Connect, but I get the same error.
One thing that I noticed was I can hear the sound from it if I play notes, but it doesn't let you see the UI. Also, the Studio Player gives me that type of error also, and also produces sound when played even though it has that similar error message on the screen.
I emailed their support and the auto reply said it may take up to 7 days for a reply.
