Tried to buy bx_shredspread with my $25 voucher, but... "requires the cart total to be greater than $32"
So I spent even more time to find something in the $2.1 - $19 range I'm willing to buy - in vain.
If I valued my time in $, PA discounts have cost me way more than they offer

To fill the gap I use always bx_tuner.

I already have that one, so the same fear of wasting [coupon] money that has me checking PA's catalogue over and over, keeps me from re-buying. Karma, PA

Well, during the last couple days they issued that $20 voucher that could be used 3 times without minimums and I bit the bullet and bought two of their $29 guitar rig plugins for about $11 each (I'm in the EU and have to pay VAT.). Can't complain.

as the upgrade/crossgrade offers are mostly more expensive than the sale prices, that's probably not a major problem.

In this case, I had an offer for SILO at a better price, so my gut tells me to wait this sale out to see if it returns.

that's unusual though I have this vague notion that I had something similar with the schoeps upmix a while back - I don't think the custom price disappeared during a sale but honestly can't remember for sure. the old price should return but it might be worth sending them an email about it if you're in a hurry: it might be a glitch in the site's coding that they will want to fix.

No sales on SD3. Second hand copy would be your best bet. Best to evaluate if you really need it before spending a handsome amount on it, though. Groove Agent 5, while not as extensive in terms of acoustic drum production and mixing, seems to be a pretty good and comprehensive drum solution. I am just waiting for it to go on sale, fingers crossed for 50% off, which I am hoping that it will happen between this and next month.

Kicks and snares do sound good on IK Modo, but all the hihats/cymbals are rather lackluster... but then I think the same about slate drums. I used to put snares and kicks from slate or IK Modo and then hihats, cymbals, percussion and rooms from toontrack ezdrummer... it was a mess. Now I just go with XLN addictive drums2, I think it's the best compromise among all the previously mentioned ones.

Looks like PA has done away with the "special license offers" normally found in your account. They're all the same as the sale price.

as the upgrade/crossgrade offers are mostly more expensive than the sale prices, that's probably not a major problem.

I noticed that a while back, assumed the offer price would go back to previous once the sale was over. Though looking unlikely the sale will ever end....

Not comparable. Depends what you want out of your drum software - SD3 is realistic (read: real samples) huge GB multisamples with specific rooms and kits while Modo Drums is physical modelling, so while it may refer to samples its a completely different thing. You can really tell the physical modelling is way behind when it comes to all cymbals as well as room/vibe. The kicks are nice to use in Modo, but thats not saying much.

The main consideration to me would be loading time differences (SD long versus Modo super quick), getting up and running quickly on projects versus long slow tweaking may be enough to say just get the cheaper Modo if you cant hear quality differences. If you value quality though the SD3 is deep and weighty. Personally I uninstalled the Modo Drums demo after about 10 minutes as it wont do for my drum sound but SD3 is not necessarily better with this huge download of GB and then slow loading projects waiting for drums to load.
I have gone with Addictive Drums as know how to shape my kits in it and its a snap to use. Id say EZ Drummer 2 may be good alternative but to me there are problems with parts of kits with phasing and some badly recorded elements such as toms. YMMV.

With MODO DRUM, the cymbals are sampled, not modeled. The SE version only has the Vintage cymbals.

any time anyone wants to talk about the good aspects of SD3, they should start by saying "SD3 is $420, but..."
I'm not just trying to be funny... of course SD3 is better than other plugins, it'd better be at that price
the question is, do you need that firepower and do you have the money?

Yeah true, the cost is really questionable for most people's actual needs. There are plenty of cheaper options that'll so just fine. Not as much the tool as much as how you use it.

I find hats and cymbals from some IK Sample Tank drum kits sound better than Modo Drum. Yet, I'd disagree about Slate Drums. They sound just great in the mix and the price ($59 between BF and New Year) is very reasonable. I tried XLN AD2, and the sound was not bad, but I couldn't find a way to read GM drum mapping properly - it was a while ago, so maybe they've solved it by now. Anyway, give Slate Drums a try.
