what does your DAW when it crashes/cannot load a project? (Ableton, Cubase, etc.) Serious problems!

OP's " serious problems " apparently not all that serious ...

Bitwig has separate processes for separate things, the DAW never crashed ever. If a plugin crashes, I just reload the plugin, if the audio engine crashes I just restart it. The session itself is never affected and can be saved always… Mostly its a plugin that crashes. If you find out which it is, try to make it unavailable for your project. Then the project might load with an error message, but still it would load…

With plugin issues, Reaper just disables the offending plug and you can investigate or replace it at your leisure. You can even just open the project file in a text editor and remove the dodgy plugs manually if you wanted. You need to go to IL for stuff like that? Yikes.
