With XLN AD2 the drum mapping is very easy, there is a drop down menu choice from the settings I think and you can choose GM from there, as well as a nice selection of other staples. Its true though that its default mapping isn't close to GM so would be frustrating firing it up first time on a project just to find all drum hits are wrong.

Anyway in terms of bargain value I think AD2 (especially with second hand market) is cost-wise a very good one for what you get, though by no means is it better per se, all just depends on your workflow priorities.

Bolder Sounds appears to have all products on sale. Anyone know how long for, and any feedback on the instruments?

I like the fiddle I got from them.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

escalona wrote: Sat Jan 01, 2022 7:25 pm Kicks and snares do sound good on IK Modo, but all the hihats/cymbals are rather lackluster... but then I think the same about slate drums. I used to put snares and kicks from slate or IK Modo and then hihats, cymbals, percussion and rooms from toontrack ezdrummer... it was a mess. Now I just go with XLN addictive drums2, I think it's the best compromise among all the previously mentioned ones.
I find hats and cymbals from some IK Sample Tank drum kits sound better than Modo Drum. Yet, I'd disagree about Slate Drums. They sound just great in the mix and the price ($59 between BF and New Year) is very reasonable. I tried XLN AD2, and the sound was not bad, but I couldn't find a way to read GM drum mapping properly - it was a while ago, so maybe they've solved it by now. Anyway, give Slate Drums a try.
Also, there's a free version of the Slate SSD and while I have te full version I find that the single kit included in the free version is my favorite one, so no harm to try it

NI's Abbey Road Drummer Collection is worth looking at too, and can be had currently for $149 with code HOLIDAYGIFT2021. This is assuming you don't have a Komplete bundle that includes some or all of these already. It was recently available for only $99 during the Cyber Sale, but $149 is still a great deal for this collection.

I like Addictive Drums but I'm not a big fan of the hihats. In general cymbals seem to be the most difficult to do well with software.

They were going for $49 at sweetwater, though I think that sale has now ended. I didn't get them because they seemed best for the heavier genres, and I tend not to do too much rock/HM.

Hi Gang

I put 2 items in my Native Instruments basket
but I am only getting 25% off on one item.

Is the HOLIDAYGIFT2021 discount only for one item?

Would HOLIDAYGIFT2021 work twice if I bought the two items separately?

Thanks.

Yes, you will need to order them separately using the discount code. :tu:

On reddit and the Cakewalk forum it says their 40% off sale lasts until January 9th. I don't have any of their stuff, but the comments I've read have been generally positive. Maybe try some of their freebies and see how you like them?

It's true that there are many heavy kits in SSD5.5, but there are also quite a few much lighter ones (funk, jazz). My favourite is Classic Vintage Dan Steel + tamb and shakers, and it sounds very good with more conservative pop/funk. One thing that should be mentioned about SSD is that it has really many kits in the standard version, and they do sound different from each other. The only set that seems disappointing is electro, but it's not the drum sound which this type of plugin is supposed to focus on.
