I currently have a 2019 16 inch MBP that I am looking to swap out in February & I'm curious about whether or not 14" inch is enough screen real estate for this. I really want the portability of the 14" but now second guessing if I should just get the 16" instead after using my 2019 a bit more recently. Thank you!
It was fine on the 13" M1 MBP I used it on, before I returned the machine. It's fine on my 14" ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14.

macOS defaults to scaled resolution, so if you want more screen real-estate you can go into settings to set it to native resolution. Things will get smaller. Studio One has areas where text is pretty small. This is the case even on larger displays. Not much you can do about that (even a 15" MBP at native resolution, you'd notice this).

Beyond that, it should be fine.

I also agree, go for the 14".

15.6/16" Laptops are pretty big, and the smaller sizes have gotten overpowered, now. Before, it was worth going with a bigger laptop because the smaller versions usually got ULV CPUs, no dGPU, etc. This was especially true for MacBooks pre-M1. This has all changed in the past few years - for both Windows and macOS notebooks.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.

If only my work's procurement team realised this. As a coder to avoid twiddling thumbs doing builds I need fastest CPU, fastest memory and plenty of it.
Unfortunately they only seem to look at Dell and it seems the default specs so the only way to get the decent CPU and memory is to ask for the beast laptops with huge screens. Which I will then stick at the back of my desk and never open as I'm using it with far bigger monitors and I've been WFH for the best part of 2 years so it's not like I'm taking the thing to meetings.

Are you safe?

Anyone knows how to turn off the annoying mouse changing tool when dragging notes up and down? Everytime i select, it drags down the velocity

Are you using the “arrow” tool? For me it doesn’t change the velocity, only if I click ctrl + alt it goes to velocity mode…

With pen/paint tool I can’t drag since it goes automatically in to eraser - not change the velocity (only when click alt with pen I can change velocity)

They've added this in 5.2 where in the highest vertical zoom levels clicking or dragging in certain areas of the note would cut them, glue them, mute them or change velocity. I don't think it can be disabled.

Yes I forgot that. I usually work with zoom not so close.

S1 is very much customizable, it would be nice if you could also customize those actions in the edit view.

No, just like Antic mentioned, it happens only in full zoom. Hopefully they add a feature which give the user the option to turn it on or off.

briefcasemanx wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 6:44 am I have absolutely HAD IT with Studio One's insane behavior regarding having midi notes for multiple arranger tracks displaying at the same time in edit mode. I just clicked on a midi clip in arranger and then in edit I saw about 1 million notes (mostly greyed out) from like 20 tracks. Why on earth would I want to see notes from 20 different tracks when I clicked on 1?

In edit mode I had to manually deselect all 20 tracks. Insane garbage.

Is there an option I can set so that multiple midi clips NEVER EVER EVER display in edit mode unless I manually select them? This is how it worked in Cubase way back in the day. If I wanted multiple clips to show in edit mode I would have to manually select all of them in the arranger.

Whatever Studio One is doing with midi clip selections by default is a dumpster fire and I can't seem to find a way to make it behave normally. I checked the documentation, but maybe I overlooked something or was looking in the wrong spot?

Yes there is something weird about that.
Double Click on a region ensures to have only that is shown in editor.
Alt/Option Double Click makes it fit the screen

Double click is annoying but it'll work for now if there's no way to change default behavior. THANK YOU.

The default way it zooms in on clicks is also feels like nonsense to me, but I'll start using alt.

I guess for some reason... somehow... you are selecting all midi parts and then you are clicking on one of them?
It happens to me from time to time.

Btw, this button:
ss1.jpg
opens the list of all tracks in the editor, which is quite handy. You can manage what is visible and what is editable directly from there. So if you are writing a melody and you want to see the bass part for reference, you can do it from there, without leaving the editor (I usually have it on full screen).

About time there was an update - it's been excluding AAS Multiphonics since the June update and AAS say it is a problem with Studio One that they have been aware of all this time

Are you on macOS? Works fine on Windows:

Yes I’m on Mac - and it’s just the VST2 that is being blocked so I can still use it but would prefer to be able to use the VST2 ideally

Post

Oh damn, does it fix only vst2 stuff? I was hoping for some sort of VST3 fix.

Some bug with the VST3 version of Output plugins and buffer/dropout settings almost didn't allow me to open a completed track I needed to reaccess. Now I just don't use Output VST3 plugs for now.

Best advice would be to just dive in and try to use on a project and frequently go to Google or YouTube anytime you are struggling. The official Presonus videos by Gregor are great. Short, informational, to the point, with a little bit of personality shining through. Very intuitive interface once you have the basics down. Probably the easiest DAW to learn.
