Thanks for everyone's thoughts.

I tried both briefly and to me, dune 3 sounds better because it's more puncher, louder, and some of the preset pads sound amazing. Pigments sounds too thin and does have a similar sound to it (bell like sound) . Pigments does have the better interface or easier interface and the modulations look deep and amazing.

Is there a way to thicken the sound on Pigments to bring it on par with dune 3's sound?

One of the features I like in Pigments is in the granular engine. You can randomize the pitch of the grains and then constrain the pitch of each grain to a scale. One can make these lovely pads that have subtle overtones appearing in the soundscape that are in the scale one is working in. Such grains can be tempo synced or more random.

Anyone interested in a trade? I have Pigments 3 with the Spectrum Sound Bank and will trade it for a Dune 3 license. Thanks!

PS. I still have to unregister Pigments 3 so it might take a couple of days for it to be completed.

I honestly don't get it. It's oscillators go right down, it has EQ and multi-band compression to boost bass frequencies. It can make my whole house vibrate with bass. It vibrates my speakers playing a low D the same as Repro-1 :hihi:

Like the Repro-1?

Just made a similar patch (808 kick) based on a square wave and wavefolding in Pigments and Repro-1. My whole room vibrates. The DAW meters are as red as can be on both. :hihi:

Yes, both patches sound different, of course. But Pigments has bass frequencies there ready to be abused. :tu:

Why not post the audio or even better yet the two patches?

Show me a convincing "Everything in Its Right Place" sound in Pigments. A/B it with RePro-5's "TUC In Its Right Place" patch.

I rest my case.

(If you don't have RePro, you can hear that patch being played ... you have to click on that link rather than play the embedded video to jump to the right timestamp.)

(BONUS: pretty rockin' rendition of Legend of Zelda theme. ...among other things! This is a really excellent patch demo video.)

Sorry, one more note. ...Just to be clear: I love Pigments. It's waaaaaaay more flexible, it's far easier to use, it's a lot of fun, and it's super creative all-round. It really is on my "must own" list.

I just claim it is thinner than most synths. That's not BAD. In fact, it's fine. It just ... is what it is. As anyone will tell you: thinner means "easier to fit in a mix."

Here's the same guy as in the previous comment, playing Pigments. To my ear, Pigments is way more "interesting." ...but waaaaaay "thinner."

ONE more comment here, sorry.

You don't even have to take the time to try it in Pigments. .... ...He reached for Arturia's Prophet V instead of RePro (and I don't think it sounds nearly as good as RePro), but it does help show how Pigments fails at the task. ...at least by his hand.
