Presonus Studio One 5.5 on Jan 11

Over at the Studio One 5.5 official discussion thread on the Presonus forums, some people are reporting bugs they found on the new release. I'll wait for a 5.5.x update before taking the plunge. No rush for me anyway since Cubase 11 has been my primary DAW over the last few months or so.

Another really cool addition in 5.5 is plugin nap on a per plugin basis.
This is good because you need LFO modulation plugins to continue modulating even with no sound to keep the phase correct.

Thanks! That illustrates what confused me about it and also an issue with it. One is that it cuts the note length down, apparently to the quantize amount. That tripped me up because I created a note that was 1/4 note in length with quantize set to 1/16, and when holding down ALT/Option it cut my 1/4 note into 4 x 1/16 notes. Then when dragging straight up from the end it turns into a diagonal ramp upward. Needed to drag up from the center of the 1st newly cut-down 1/16 note.antic604 wrote: Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:40 pm Works just fine here.
You need to double click to insert a note DON'T LET GO and add Alt (on PC):
![]()
But the bigger issue is that it doesn't appear to be creating a chord in the usual sense. A chord is typically comprised of every alternate note (1-3-5 of the scale, 1-3-5-7 of the scale, etc.). This creates a note at every consecutive note of the scale. It's a bit useless as a chord creation tool. Cubase's chord stamp is much better in that regard. If I start at C in a C major scale and draw the first 3 notes of a chord I want C-E-G, not C-D-E.
Chord stack should instead retain the note length, whatever it was drawn as, and stack notes at every alternating note of the scale.

RLY.
As they finish catching up the updates are expected to get less and less impressive.
I'm actually a bit shocked at how little attention the Live page has gotten. Whatever it's called. I never really looked at it., since I don't have a need for it as implemented.
The update itself is just unremarkable. It's more the things they seem to be ignoring that are annoying, but they are probably saving them for 6.0 because its getting a lot harder to develop banger point releases, now.
I'm fine with Cubase 12 since I'll be able to install on multiple machines without dongle swapping. Upgrades cost similar ($99 and then $60), so I'll just settle down with that.

It's not for me and we release stuff. I just make it as loud as I am comfortable with and if they turn it down, they turn it down. They reformat it all on the fly anyway, depending on bandwidth and user preferences so I don't worry much about it.apoclypse wrote: Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:54 pmIt's a big deal for anyone who actually releases their music. However up until now I have other tools that do very similar things (Izotope Ozone etc) so it hasn't been a big deal for me personally.
Anyway, nothing in this update that means anything to me, although I might check out the Project page when I am ready to master something, maybe this weekend, so there might be something new in there for me (haven't used it yet).

It's not creating chords though, is it? It's just notes in the scale.antic604 wrote: Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:40 pmWorks just fine here.boark wrote: Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:05 pm The chord stack feature looks interesting, but it doesn't work when I try it. I set a scale, select the Scale checkbox, and when holding Option and dragging up/down it creates an ascending or descending line of shorter notes. Doesn't create a chord like the video shows.

For example, when I try it on C major, it does not draw C - E - G to create a C chord but it draws C - D - E.

That’s not necessarily the case. As far as I’m aware, none of the big distributors (TuneCore, CD Baby, Distrokid, AWAL, etc.) allow you to upload the same song mastered differently for each individual platform.apoclypse wrote: Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:54 pmIt's a big deal for anyone who actually releases their music. I'm surprised people here are ignoring it.
So most people who are serious about releasing their music globally onto as many DSP’s as possible, including Spotify which requires that you use a distributor, may not find this to be a big deal at all.

Indeed. For that you need to choose Minor or Major Triad as a scale, which I think they've added in this version too. It seems they're going into the direction I'm asking them for - to have the key & scale lock follow the chord track - but they weren't able to deliver it just yet, so for now we got this half-backed solution.Fornicras wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 6:12 amIt's not creating chords though, is it? Yeah just noticed Gregor also used pentatonic scale to showcase this feature. Not too bad but definitely needs improving. It would also be OK for me if it was chord stamps like FL has.antic604 wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 7:43 amIndeed. I'm really struggling to understand why you linked a thread that everyone here knows about, since this was leaked months ago, and Steinberg has already given a timeline for C12's release.jamcat wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 2:11 amGreat!Trensharo wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 1:36 am I'm fine with Cubase 12 since I'll be able to install on multiple machines without dongle swapping. Were't you the first one who said that he will uninstall Studio One after they revealed what's in the update? Lol.
Anyway, of course people complain about free stuff. Although it's arguable that this qualifies as a free update. In my eyes, also considering the high upgrade price for Studio One, I think it's just what you paid for.
