I fancied old school goa as trance dance candidate. Had more exciting movements and cool phrygian themes in the bass.
im talking roots of, like the old squat parties, where for "reasons" minimal was the way, because when the rozzers were spotted, you wanted minimal unplugging and carrying.
in the uk at least, this is where dance music grew up, in illegal parties, because "repetitive beats" were actually made illegal!!! (in public) so it became something more than just a good time.
all this, as well as the music were intrinsic to the sound, because "rebellion"
now, obviously "musically" it's not rebellious at all, rarely, but a "scene" is more than just the records played.
and tbf, i don't really know about modern dance stuff, im a granddad.
