Personally, I wouldn't want this or would want a disable option.

I think good naming is much more beneficial than an icon could ever be. How do you even match icons to electronic sounds and noises in a way that works?

I mean they already support some Unicode symbols... so what about combining your two ideas and request them to support emojis?
(+maybe they could interpret some unused unicode symbols as custom musical instrument icons that are not covered by standard emojis)

Of course not. They already sold you this feature and never come back to it, like with other dozens of half baked/incomplete features they left behind.
