Please please consider making an iOS AUV3 version. It would be a great way to integrate all the iOS music applications into a desktop environment. I know IDAM exists but it's only one direction.

Has anyone tried routing this through a ZeroTier personal network with another machine outside of the standard network?
I can see many possibilities doing that for high quality podcast recording, get your guest half way across the country to load ZeroTier, join your private network, and use the IP addresses to connect two instances of Connector, and you can record straight in to your application of choice, no Skype / Zoom / Teams redirected audio.
Yes, there would be latency, but that would depend on your connections to each other, and the benefite is private high quality audio.
PS: ZeroTier is open source, perhaps it could be built in to a standalone version that you could distribute to clients and say "don't worry, just load this standalone application with this config file that's bundled in, and we can record everything in to my DAW"

Samplemania - thanks for the reply above. Have you been able to get midi in to Ableton from another app using connector (rather than out from it). Even when I put connector on a separate midi track and then route that track to an instrument I can’t get this to work.

Is input monitoring on for the MIDI track? (maybe Live will require it to be on on the audio track where connector is located too, I don't remember).barza wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 8:40 am Samplemania - thanks for the reply above. Yes, I have tried all the input monitoring options for the track containing the instrument I want to play. But I never get any indication that midi is coming out from the connector/receiver.

Maybe you can post a picture of your setup (with all I/O and plug-ins visible)? MIDI routing in DAWs is often a pain, unfortunately.
Alternatively, you could load PatchWork as an instrument, load Connector and your virtual instrument inside, and do the MIDI routing there. It is straightforward and reliable.

Have you considered publishing the wire protocol for Connector? I'd love to be able to build Connector -> xxx -> Connector where xxx is not a VST host.

Not yet, as it's really early and may change, but why not in the future?richhickey wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:16 pm Have you considered publishing the wire protocol for Connector? I'd love to be able to build Connector -> xxx -> Connector where xxx is not a VST host.

Me neither.barza wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 8:40 am Samplemania - thanks for the reply above. Have you been able to get midi in to Ableton from another app using connector (rather than out from it). Maybe it would be a solution that DAWs recognise the connector plugin as VST/AU "instrument" instead of a plugin. It means an "empty" no sound/audio instrument that does nothing els but sending Midi out. Maybe BCA could do that.

It would not change anything. If I remember well, there is no difference regarding MIDI in Ableton Live for plug-ins with MIDI or instruments.samplemania wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 7:05 pm Maybe it would be a solution that DAWs recognise the connector plugin as VST/AU "instrument" instead of a plugin. BTW are you using the VST2 version of the plug-in? I don't think Live supports MIDI out for VST3 or AU plug-ins.

Definitely. All the potential major uses I can find for Connector for me involve applications that don't host vst. That is, Connector is not filling a practical need in my case. But I really wish it did as is very easy to use and well designed in the usual Blue Cat mannerrichhickey wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:16 pm Have you considered publishing the wire protocol for Connector? Yes but I assume with other hosts. I couldn't insert connector (alone) in Studio One as "midi send" to Ableton. The channel in Studio One turns to an audio channel.Blue Cat Audio wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 8:39 pmIt would not change anything. By the way - in Logic connector shows up as midi effect. Is this intended? So many questions...

Of course, why not? But you would not get the DAW integration you have with M4L...
You can easily load a M4L device into Max and connect it to a VST~ object.

If you host Connector on an audio track, and create an extra MIDI track (=instrument track in Studio One if I remember well), you can use this MIDI track to route MIDI to/from Connector. Most DAWs are really weird with MIDI.samplemania wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:40 pm Yes but I assume with other hosts. I couldn't insert connector (alone) in Studio One as "midi send" to Ableton. If you really want to host connector as an instrument, you can simply wrap it into PatchWork too. Patchwork's MIDI routing is much easier in general, so that's what many people use to do more complex MIDI connections between several plug-ins in a DAW.
This is indeed not an accident. There is an MFX version of the plug-in because in Logic that's the only way to get MIDI into an instrument (unless again it is hosted inside PatchWork, of course).By the way - in Logic connector shows up as midi effect. Is this intended? So many questions...![]()
