I use VCV Rack and Voltage Modular plus Bitwig a lot so the idea is to get less stepped control over modulation etc. I do see it being a slippery slope though, especially as I now have two thirds of an empty eurorack cabinet. Eek.

^^ Nice, I would have to save up a bit for that one. Dunno if I would go that way for that kind of scratch, maybe. And that's mostly because I would have to save up that kind of scratch Congratz, I've read only good things about it I believe.Synthack wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:45 pm I finally decided I'm going to get a proper recording set up going. I already have a decent interface, but now I want to upgrade and even though I said i was going to buy a bunch of synthesizers of equal value this is what i'm getting now along with a few AKG microphones.

It's so beautiful and oh so useful.

I’ve not really got my head round the west coast stuff. I found it hard to use the Buchla in Arturia’s V collection, it just becomes horrible noise too easily.Synthack wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:14 pmWhat modules were you thinking of for your rack?WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:09 pmI use VCV Rack and Voltage Modular plus Bitwig a lot so the idea is to get less stepped control over modulation etc. I do see it being a slippery slope though, especially as I now have two thirds of an empty eurorack cabinet. At the moment I’ve just got the Behringer 960 sequencer plus 962 switch, a multiples, the Doepfer dual quantizer and that ES-3. Probably look at a mixer module plus I like the look of Behringer’s system 100 modules especially as they’re pretty multifunctional so to start with the dual VCO/VCF/VCA looks a good intro, but I have got Model D, Neutron and MS-20 mini to interface with so I won’t go overboard on oscillators.
Probably the things I’m most interested in are things it’s hard to fake digitally so filters and the like.
Oh and similarly, some kind of decent slew control. Doepfer has a reasonably priced one, anyone recommend a slew module?

So it seems 1010music has a new announcement tomorrow. I’m definitely curious but I wish they’d work more on developing a better workflow for their current desktop products. They have great features but clumsy ways of interacting.

filters, i love my doepfer wasp and sem filters both fairly cheap too.WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:47 pmI’ve not really got my head round the west coast stuff. my polivoks i also love, but that's erica a bit more expensive but not crazy!
i also have a couple of bastl cinnamon, reasonably cheap, nice drive and resonance with hi/lo/bandpass
and a richter borg, which again, there is love, but we're getting more expensive here.
think off the top of my head that's my filters
pekbro seemingly may remember more?

Interesting. One thing I noticed for a cheap option is that the Tangible Waves guy sells some Eurorack adapters for his modules which means I could get his £30 Wasp filter for example.

MY favorite eurorack filter is probably the 3 Tom Steve's MS-20 filter. The Subcon VoiceTail is also a good starter filter as it's a triple filter, or a combined double filter, a mixer with an aux input and a vca. A transistor ladder filter. The MN Qpas also good. They are also pretty expensive as filters go. The LA67 MACA is very good imo for not too much (on sale), an SSI2140 based filter. He makes the L4 crossover as well, a frequency splitter essentially. Good stuff
Definitely not going to run out of options in the eurorack filter dept.

Just looked at that MS-22, it’s not that much less than I paid for a whole MS-20 mini!
Think I’ll be avoiding the expensive stuff for now.

Heh, welcome to eurorack! No worries, there are plenty of relatively affordable options. Look at Ladik, doepfer, dreadbox and of course behringer. Just to name a few.WatchTheGuitar wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:17 pm Just looked at that MS-22, it’s not that much less than I paid for a whole MS-20 mini!

*A tangible waves system is perfectly a good way to go as well, I know some eurorack guys who
like the stuff a lot. Pretty hard to beat as an affordable, ready made modular system imo.
