I didn't explain that very well.

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns\TruePianos x64.dll is the install location of TruePianos. I put a shortcut to this location in my 4Front Technologies folder, which is housed within my VST Plug-In Custom Folder.

I have a lot to read, so I'll be away from my computer for a while.

Aloysius wrote: Thu Feb 03, 2022 5:23 pm I can't seem to get Live 11.1 to scan my VST2 folder, full of sub-folder links to various VSTs, scattered around my computer.

Is there a trick? It always worked before.

Considering how many VST2 nplugins I have installed, it could be a f*cking nightmare situation unless someone knows of a workaround. It could turn my nice neat folder structure into a total mess. That's assuming I can even reinstall everything to one folder.

For example. The following is no longer getting scanned.

C:\VST Plug-In Custom Folder\4Front Technologies\"C:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns\TruePianos x64.dll"
You've got to use symlinks apparently as a workaround now in 11.1

Guide to doing so here: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/c ... -or-linux/

Alternatively make your long term life a lot easier and just stick all your VST2s in [various subfolders of ] c:\Program Files\VSTPlugins and point Ableton to that location
A lot of developers put plugins in their own preferred locations. But, where I can, I may need to stick to one location as you say. Thanks for your help. :)

Shortcut support was removed in 11.1 - you have to use Symlinks now. It's fairly easy to do though - just install "Link Shell Extension" from here:

Handy tutorial is here:

This came up a few pages back - Although a lot of plugin installers might *default* to a different folder than you'd like (for me they have a habit of wanting to stick them in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins ) pretty much 99.9% of them [bloody Waves excluded :D ] will allow you to point to a custom folder (like you I have C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins as my VST2 folder and I make subfolders in there for various companies)

OK. Thanks EnochLight and mcbpete. :tu:

I think I'll stick with C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins and make folders in there (as suggested) or VST3 whenever possible as everything seems to be going in that direction whether I like it or not.

Thanks also to elxsound and Jolaff. I'm happy enough with my choices now. :tu:

For Windows i can recommend this tool: Link Shell Extension

You can make Symlinks, Junctions, Hardlinks and more with 2 simple clicks.

It integrates into the explorer context menu and is very easy to use.
No juggling with the command line, I use it for years now without a hazzle :hihi:

It's less work just to copy everything into one folder.

The benefit of keeping things in seperate folders is when you have things you need to keep seperate (such as betas of various plugins). :tu:

That's the last thing you should do. Many plugins keep track of what's where (samples, wavetables, presets, etc.) and also uninstallers would completely loose plot if you moved filse from where they were put originally.
