I thought you wanted to buy the XLN Audio plugin you mentioned. That's why I proposed to contact support, to make sure you get a license which is resellable.
I have no idea why the companies you mentioned don't allow a license transfer for licenses bought at Plugin Boutique, by the way. After all, they hand out the serials for those plugins. It's not as if Plugin Boutique generates those...
If anything, they need a better way to activate their plugins. The reason behind it is probably that they have no way of verifying that the license owner has rightfully purchased the license, because he didn't go through their system.
A simply screenshot of your Plugin Boutique account would probably be enough to verify. Oh well.

My question was answered by slasi, so I don't see any need to ask PB support. They'll be as confused by the question as you were. I doubt they want to admit there is any problem. Wavesfactory apparently said there is something about the way invoices are generated, but that's a bit of bull if you ask me.

Is rc-20 the gold standard of lofi plugins? I have the arturia Mello lo-fi plugin I got for a free recently. Is rc-20 better?

PB is capable of transferring those licenses that don't go through the vendor's site, not sure if they're willing to or not tho. They've transferred a Wavesfactory plugin for me in the past

Hmm, so RC-20 doesn't include a full vinyl emulation, just the vinyl noise. Saturation isn't based on vinyl. But still apparently very popular among lofi producers.
OTOH I thought Satin had me covered for tape effects, but it doesn't get as wobbly and dirty. And I like the RC-20 bitcrusher.
Still, I don't think I want to buy more than one of Lo-Fi AF, Retro-Fi, and RC-20, though at $20 it might be the cheapest until PA has Lo-Fi AF for $40 (so $15 after voucher).

Or is it the old standard?3ptguitarist wrote: Sat Feb 05, 2022 12:46 am Is rc-20 the gold standard of lofi plugins? I have the arturia Mello lo-fi plugin I got for a free recently. Is rc-20 better?
There's also Cymatics Origin that's free and seems pretty good.

I'm going with the overloaded servers theory, too, but it didn't work until I turned off AdBlock. Then it did work on the next try. This is on the latest build of Chrome on Windows. YMMV, of course.jneudorf wrote: Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:56 pmIt took me a few tries; it seemed like their website was being hit hard. Maybe try a couple times per day, and hopefully during off-hours you'll get in.Ou_Tis wrote: Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:48 pm IK sent out an email saying X-Drive is free for all Amplitube CS (free version) users until the 25th; instructions say to go to User Area and there will be a pop-up with the offer. Tried multiple browsers, no pop up. I definitely have Amplitube CS registered to my account.

Are upgrades of Arturia V Collection instruments (for example Stage-73 V2 and JUP-8 V4) also 50% off during the current sale? If I remember correctly you see the discount when it's in your cart.

To me, Lo-Fi AF isn't really a direct competitor to RC-20. RC-20 is focused on making things sound old in a vintage way, while Lo-Fi AF is more like a sound design/FSU kind of plugin. They have some overlap, but they both do a number of things the other doesn't.
A more direct comparison to RC-20 would be Baby Audio's Super VHS. Might also consider the new Lifeline Expanse in that kind of category. I guess you'd have to put Thenatan's Vybz in there too, although for whatever reason that brand has always made me wary.

re: RC-20; I had a play last night with just stuff i got for free/is free (izotope vinyl, chowtape, mello-fi, trash2, NF Garbage) and don't see the need for rc-20, vybz etc personally. Go hunting for some old radio IRs or vinyl noise samples and you can get creative in your own way.
I guess if you want lo-fi in a box without having to put too much effort in then they have a purpose.

For all those hung up on RC-20 specifically being a vinyl emulation tool etc, I have no real requirement for that but jumped on it for this price out of interest and already after a couple of hours of playing have found it a really cool tool for creative effects that aren't specifically lofi, just unique. Hit init and start playing with components on their own to see what you can achieve. As an example, the distortion band cut paired with the delay can make some great effects for drum breaks.
This is a great piece of kit to have in the bag, regardless of price imo.

Forgot to mention RC-20 apparently doesn't emulate tape distortion either. The wobble and drop-out sound nice as effects though. But I got Lo-Fi Pitch Dropout free from ADSR last month... and Izotope Vinyl, Cymatics Origin etc. also have wobble. Think I might like RC-20 wobble demo best from what I've heard, and there's a bit more to it than just two LFOs.
Odd that the most popular (?) lo-fi plugin doesn't actually emulate vinyl or tape saturation. Maybe people who listen to lo-fi prefer the "artificial" over the "realistic"? OTOH Music Radar review says "Makes anything sound old"....
