Free vs. bought

I have just bought Tracktion for $80 and I was very glad to do so. Since then some bitterness has entered the cup (wormwood so to speak), as I have afterwards learned, that Tracktion is now free. "Don't freak out" the note says," you'll probably get the next 2.0 for half the price".
Well, this is not good business behaviour, if I must say so. Nothing on the Tracktion site, where you buy the program, indicated that Tracktion was now free. Nothing! Well, do I now get my money back or what?

more or less you just paid half of the price of T2 when it comes out

You well pay less than the difference between T1 and T2 when upgrading, and the people who have the free version will have to pay full price.

edit: you beat me to it :P

You'd probably get an upgrade for V2 (and a lot of new functionality) for next to nothing. So at the end you have payed less for V2 than anybody that got V1 for free and wanted to upgrade to V2.

I'm willing to bet the NFR version will have discount too. Most likely it will be just a small discount though(10%-20% I guess), just enough to entice them to buy V2.

Yes, but sorry, that's no answer to my question. I bought _this_ version of Tracktion, and nowhere was to be seen any information of it was a free program. If I bought a car, and nobody told me it was actually a free car - I wouldn't be satisfied with the answer, that I could by the next version for half the price. I have to say this isn't good business ethics, and it spoils some of my good feelings having paid an honest oneman firm/Jules for his program!

The version of Tracktion you bought is not available for free. You bought a full license, while the program that is available for free has an NFR (not for resale) license.

I don't see the problem.

well, who says he WANTS to buy tracktion 2?

I got the free version ,and im glad for it, i cant wait for the NFR version 2 ;)

but i could see how hes a bit ticked.

I understand your gripe, and you are perfectly right, David.
Though, as cellular pointed out, at least you can sell the program back legally on e-bay and then head for the free version... well...beats me.

Feel free to try for a refund :P

The upgrade policy is in place and involves a discount on T2 (as already stated  )

I agree that it is odd that Mackie would offer both a free NFR version and a version for sale at their website, but what you're saying above isn't true. Just visit their TRacktion webpage at http://www.mackie.com/products/tracktion/index.html

In the upper right hand corner is the "Purchase Tracktion" box. Four boxes below that is the NFR blurb.

And yea, if it were me I'd ask for my money back, and cite the NFR version as the reason.

Did you guys who paid for Tracktion get something that actually states that there will be a discount on T2 for you, or is this just supposition?
