Hey guys, sidechaining MAutodynamic EQ and Mmorph not working for me.

Been using Live for years but still didn't figure this one out! :dog:

Anyone got a good method for me? Cheers!

Using v11.1 on a mac. 3 methods attempted have both failed:
[1] Audio out from audio channel to Melda, no change.
[2] Sidechain input on Melda device, no change.
[3] Sidechain in on Autodynamic EQ selected, no change.

Using AU versions. Perhaps it's different with VST?

UPDATE: it works with the VST but not the AU. Same issue reported by users of Reaper as well as Ableton. Kind of strange. I guess thats the only way to get it to work... using VST.

That's a long term bug in Live - it doesn't really recognize individual inputs in plugins and only takes all input channels as one array. That in effect makes it work if the plugin is stereo, since then in 3+4 is the sidechain. But in AU/VST3 Melda plugins this doesn't work, because the plugins are surround (or even ambisonics) capable, meaning that each input bus has 8 (or 64) channels. In VST2 this is optional exactly because of problematic DAWs (I don't think there's any other DAW that doesn't support this anymore) and by default it is disabled, so the plugin acts like it has stereo capabilities only and this starts working.

It seems Reaper has the same issue. If the issue is that Melda plugins work in surround and most people need them to function only in stereo, would it not be better to be able to offer people the stereo version so that the sidechain feature works as advertised like it does for many other plugins? Would make life easier for most producers I think, because they’re working in stereo not surround.

I don't have that issue in REAPER. You just have to set the pins correctly.

I'm no expert on Reaper, just referencing difficulties others have had which I noticed here:

Yeah, it can be a bit tricky to figure this out at first, but once you know how to do it, it's easy.
Bitwig also works without issues for me.

Blaming Ableton is a pretty poor policy in my opinion. If other companies can get it to work, surely Melda can too.

Ableton is one of the most popular DAWs now used by thousands upon thousands of people, so it’s not a small deal that this feature is made so difficult to use.

Thats my 2 cents, for whatever it’s worth anyways....! Cheers

It's not blaming other company, this is a long term bug, but perhaps long term "design incorrectness". We can NOT solve it on our side, it just cannot be done.

You could publish two versions of each plugin. One with surround support and one with stereo only :wheee:

:D yeah, create another 100 plugins because of a design flaw in Live? Eh, no thank you :D. Anyways VST2 works there, so as far as I'm concerned, everything is fine.
