It's got f**k-all to do with "needs" because they all do the same f**king thing. The fact you use both tends to prove this, don't you think?
Nope. It likely means they do something different… otherwise, why use both?

Except they don't, obviously, which means there is no rational reason to use both. Why is that so hard to accept? I own lots of hardware but you don't hear me trying to justify it, do you? For me it's mostly just habit - I've always had hardware around.

That said, I think I have finally reached the point where I won't be buying any more because, even as an irrational indulgence, it gets harder and harder to justify even a modest expense. I reckon at this point it must be more than 6 months since I even switched any of my hardware on. There's just no point to it, especially with some of the incredible MPE/5D MIDI controllers that are around now, which allow us to perform with VST plugins in ways we simply can't with hardware (unless we use those same controllers, obviously).

No, they do not all do the same f**king thing ... software needs a computer, hardware does not. The fact that I use both proves literally nothing. Horses for courses. I have yet to find any software that can do exactly what the Reminder can do YMMV.

Because it's bollox ... and there is no rational reason to argue otherwise.

Thanks for posting this. I love the Typhon, and the Sinevibes effects are a large part of the reason.

I have three. Between the two of us, we could do a lot of damage.

YASSS, that was by far the biggest surprise to me, how great those effects are! :phones:

I wasn't at all impressed with the Typhon demos when it was first released ... but now, coupled with the NYMPHES (as in the video) it sounds top notch. :)

Yeah, nah. I suspect you've said that to yourself before and did you listen? Some things just aren't worth fighting. It's fate. :?

Yeah, most of the Typhon demos didn’t do much for me, either, but there were just a few of them that made think it might be worth a shot and it’s actually very cool!

You do understand that those two statements are totally unrelated, right? "Hardware" in the context of digital instruments and effects simply means that you are buying the computer as well as the software. If you already have a computer, that seems like an unnecessary expense, doesn't it? As I said, in either case, they live or die on the quality of the DSP programming.
The fact that I use both proves literally nothing. Horses for courses. I have yet to find any software that can do exactly what the Reminder can do YMMV.
Really? You can't have looked too hard. I reckon I could do everything it does wholly within my DAW, no plugins required. And before you start bleating about doing it in realtime, I'll point out that you only have it for the studio, so who cares?

No, it is not something I have ever even thought before. For the longest time I simply accepted that I would use hardware on stage. But over the last few months I have built up a really cool Roli set-up - Seaboard Block, 4 x Lightpad Block M and 2 x Control Blocks - which I am really keen to use on stage. And the thing with Roli stuff is that it's not compatible with hardware, it only works through a computer, so the hardware becomes more of a burden than it's felt in the past.

The other aspect is that the hardware I have at the moment - Uno, Uno Pro and Rocket - are probably my all-time favourite hardware instruments, yet still I don't feel like I need them any more. I'll keep them, no question, but I can't imagine what might be down the road that would tempt me to spend more money. I also still have 5 other instruments - Ultranova, Analog Keys, MiniMonsta, Skulpt and Craft 2.0 - that I need to get rid of but I haven't been able to bring myself to put them up for sale yet. I'll definitely get around to it, though, assuming I can find them.

If I ever get around to doing this 80s cover thing I've been working on live, I've decided I will definitely not use any hardware. It will just be my laptop, microphone and the keytar I bought before Xmas. (The keytar is to give it that authentic 80s feel.)
