Questions about the workflow

Hello,
Q1. How can I get an audio clip from the recorded audio in the projects page back into the edit on the right track? I deleted a clip by mistake and couldn't get it back with the Undo function for unknown reason. It looks like there is no way to do this. In Cubase that was so easy in the Media bay, just one click.
Q2. I was trying to change the master tempo at some points in a project when I noticed that in the properties panel the time of a tempo point is given only in bars & beats. My time base in the project was minutes & seconds. This means changing the time of tempo points in the properties panel is not possible due to the difference in the timebase. Is there a way to do it? So far I've been able to edit the tempo points manually in the tempo track only.
Q3. The program is crushing repeatedly, namely the sandbox process of the plugins. I'm re-enabling the sandbox process again to get to the normal situation. I'm using a decent laptop with 4 GB memory + Ryzen 3 CPU, so I'm not sure if it's the specs of the laptop that are affecting the program. I'm still in the learning stage and buying a powerful PC is planned in the future.
Thanks for the answers.

Standard copy/paste should work. Select file. Press Ctrl-C. Go to edit, click where you want it to go. Press Ctrl-V.No_Man_Land wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 1:21 am Q1. My general rules: 1. Enable sandbox but only apply it to plugins with known problems. 2. Avoid VST3 if you can.No_Man_Land wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 1:21 am Q3. 1. See Pough's answer.
2. You'd think this would be selectable from the Properties pane as an option, but not yet, I guess.
Look up at the top of your screen for the Marker track (between Tempo and Chord, usually).
Right-click on it.
Select "Add absolute time code marker."
You can position this marker right at your tempo change and fine tune its position as well as the tempo change marker.
Other options you may like appear in the Actions menu to the left.
3. VST3s tend to be rock-solid for me, but I'm running 11.5.17. I've yet to see someone who thought 11.5.18 ran better than its predecessor on this forum, and plugin stability seems to be a hot issue with 11.5.18. You can downgrade from the Tracktion website. Let me know if you need directions on this.

I didn't see any difference in plugin stability between the two. It probably depends a lot on which plugins people are using. Most of my plugins work fine in 11.5.18 with the exception of a few VST3 versions of plugins. Any of the problem's I'm having have been consistent across all Waveform versions.Watchful wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 5:12 am I've yet to see someone who thought 11.5.18 ran better than its predecessor on this forum, and plugin stability seems to be a hot issue with 11.5.18.
11.5.18 fixed the MP3 playback issue for me, so here is your single data point of "runs better".

Thank you for the replies guys. I will be honest and tell you your feedback and my experience with Waveform (so far) are giving me the impression of working with an unfinished product. There is no software with no bugs, but there are benchmarks and limits. When a certain bug hinders the productivity of work then it is not acceptable.
Not having the possibility of changing the timebase to edit the tempo marks in the properties panel sounds illogical, but it's not major. This is a minor issue.
Now what about the plugins? I can't live without VST3s!! I am coming from the world of Steinberg after more than 17 years of using Cubase. My old car was up and running but I wanted a change for certain reasons, and now I have to wait for Tracktion to fix these issues. This is a major bug that affects the production pace. How long it takes...no idea.
I don't want to feel sorry because I moved to Waveform and I hate to say it.

Which plugins, exactly? I have 100s of plugins and have no problem with the vast majority of them. The best you'll get as a result of "some stuff doesn't work" will be a "some stuff does work" response. If you want things to get better, you will need to get specific so that the devs can fix problems. Keep in mind that it might not be Waveform that is causing the problem even if it only shows up in Waveform. I have reported a number of problems to plugin developers who then fixed their plugins.No_Man_Land wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 10:51 pm Now what about the plugins? I can't live without VST3s!!
By the way, many of my VST3 plugins work fine. I just noticed over time that if there was an issue, it would be with the VST3 version and not the VST2 version. It's newer and both DAW and plugin developers complain that it's not described well enough for anything to really be fully compliant.
But if you decide to remain passive and complain, you shouldn't expect a solution. Developers can't fix problems they're not aware of.The solution for now is to use the VST2 version; we’ll add this to the list of VST3 issues we need to fix if Steinberg can ever settle on the standard…
Surely there must be consensus by now...

I got your point. I'm using AmpliTube 4, VST3. It's essential for me.pough wrote: Sun Feb 20, 2022 12:42 amWhich plugins, exactly?No_Man_Land wrote: Sat Feb 19, 2022 10:51 pm Now what about the plugins? I can't live without VST3s!!

You can also do this from the Browser. If you select Files and then Project Folder you should see your recorded audio files for your project in the Recorded folder and can drag and drop to the appropriate track and location.
Q2. I was trying to change the master tempo at some points in a project when I noticed that in the properties panel the time of a tempo point is given only in bars & beats. Q3. The program is crushing repeatedly, namely the sandbox process of the plugins. I'm re-enabling the sandbox process again to get to the normal situation. I saw later in the thread that you're having problems with Amplitube 4 plug-in. This does seem to be a problematic plug-in as I'm using Amplitube 5 VST3 plugin with Waveform 11.5 and if I have more than 1-2 tracks with this plug-in enabled it does crash from time to time. It doesn't lose anything so more an inconvenience to have to restart the edit. I have 16GB of RAM so would recommend bumping up your memory.
Thanks for the answers.

This is exactly what I am looking for. Now I can drag and drop my recorded takes precisely to the desired location. Thanks man!Dark Lane wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 2:10 pm Q1. As a temporary solution I am freezing the tracks of AmpliTube after recording my takes. Later when I start comping I unfreeze them one at a time to reduce the potential crushings. Not an ideal solution, but it makes the situation a bit better.Dark Lane wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 2:10 pm Q3. The program is crushing repeatedly, namely the sandbox process of the plugins. Another question:
Is there a way to lock the editing of individual tracks (apart from freezing), so the position of clips stay in place and other variables like automation, faders..etc. wouldn't be changed my mistake? It might be there but I couldn't find it.

What I do as a standard workflow is, when I'm happy with the track, I render it to a new track and save the original (in my case MIDI) track. Then I mix with the rendered tracks only. Also, if you make the original tracks Inactive then it takes the load of the CPU/memory and makes performance a lot better.
