Why should they announce something new which is in their portfolio already???

That explains all. If the logo is visible, that makes it even certain. Voyetra-8 was a rack!rezoneight wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 1:15 amOP thought Voyetra-8. Which would be awesome since they're so rare and the only option is the UVI sampled thing.

It's not the exact logo itself, it's just some very similar colouring behind a tree silhouette, unfortunately I've since discovered that the tree silhouette in question is part of the original 2001 scene, so it might have no bearing at all and just be a coincidence given where they took the 2001 inspiration from. (Although the turtle beach logo is/was a palm tree, the tree in 2001 a quiver tree, and the tree in the cherry audio video looks like some generic deciduous tree).
2 days and we'll find out anyway.

I'm honestly hoping for Voyetra-8 over more Roland shit.NikkiA wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 1:38 pm It's not the exact logo itself, it's just some very similar colouring behind a tree silhouette, unfortunately I've since discovered that the tree silhouette in question is part of the original 2001 scene, so it might have no bearing at all and just be a coincidence given where they took the 2001 inspiration from. The Voyetra 8 is imo the one that makes most sense for this. I'd personally prefer an MKS80 though, which has a more unique sound character. The Voyetra is a good and largely under-appreciated synth (likely because it's quite rare), especially for it's time, but imo doesn't really add much unique to the analog subtractive synthesis potential range of sounds...

None of the ancient synths add much uniqueness, its mainly nostalgia and good to trigger memories. If they sound nice and have some good presets and are priced as Cherry does, it will find its market…
It certainly makes a million more sense to emulate such a synth than sampling it…

ye, but where is the correlation between that synth and the video riddle?beely wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 2:41 pm The Voyetra 8 is imo the one that makes most sense for this. i dont see any. the only usable information about the movie and its soundtrack i found is that its made with two of the first digital synths, one of them was the synclavier. i dont think cherry audio will release one of them...i rather believe it will be a roland system 700 sim than that^^. at least a system 700 is a giant monolithic thing^^

The major text info in the video is the "the dawn of rack" banner.anttimaatteri wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:33 pm ye, but where is the correlation between that synth and the video riddle?
i dont see any.
The Voyetra 8 was the first synthesiser made in a 19" rack format.

yes, but then theres no other reference to the movie "2001 - a space odyssey" itself. or its just the dawn of euro-rack and it will be a doepfer-synth^^beely wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:35 pmThe major text info in the video is the "the dawn of rack" banner.anttimaatteri wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:33 pm ye, but where is the correlation between that synth and the video riddle?

You asked for the correlation as to the guess. I gave you it. I'm not saying it's true, or how literally we can take the teaser video or theme. We're just making the best guesses we can. My *actual* guess was the "second" rack module released, the Roland MKS80 "Super Jupiter", which came a few months after the Voyetra 8, and the Jupiter thing also ties in with the space odyssey theme too, and it was still there at the "dawn of rack synths" even if it wasn't the actual first one.
We'll see in a few days or whenever it comes out...

Originally, I had thought it might be an effects rack, but I'm thinking the Voyetra might be more likely. The audio in the video sure sounds like it was made with a synth.beely wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:35 pmThe major text info in the video is the "the dawn of rack" banner.anttimaatteri wrote: Tue Feb 22, 2022 5:33 pm ye, but where is the correlation between that synth and the video riddle?

I'm not sure the Voyetra 8 was actually the first rack-mount analog. I remember a review of a rack-mount monophonic analog synth in Keyboard Magazine back in the seventies. I can't remember the make or model, but I don't think it was made by any of the well-known companies, and I don't think it was a success. About all i remember about it was that it came with a separate keyboard, like the ARP 2600, and everything else was in a 19'' rack enclosure. Maybe someone else here remembers more about it.
Another rack mount synth that might make an interesting VA is the Oberheim OB-MX. Or maybe not...
I don't really need another virtual analog, but I am really curious about this new product. And GAS could overcome my good sense. Two days to go...

Certainly the first commercial one I know of, particularly a poly synth, which is really what we’ve been talking about. It wasn’t easy to cram the guts of an analog poly synth with 70s technology.DocAtlas wrote: Wed Feb 23, 2022 12:39 amI'm not sure the Voyetra 8 was actually the first rack-mount analog.
It doesn't ring a bell here. It could be a prototype that was never made commercially, or it could have just made very little impact. The only other thing I can think of is the fairly rare rack RSF Kobol Expander - an analog monosynth... dated to 1979 according to the internets. It doesn't really fit with the teaser/clues, though.DocAtlas wrote: Wed Feb 23, 2022 12:39 amI remember a review of a rack-mount monophonic analog synth in Keyboard Magazine back in the seventies.
