Check your Steinberg store account, sometimes the new code appears there before you get the email.fese wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 5:04 pm I would highly advise against trying to get the Grace Period Update today, seems their servers are again hammered and unresponsive. I got no result on the grace period check and now my C11 license is missing from eLicenser, and the application just complains about no connection to server possible.
Better wait a few days, or else you might end up having no functioning Cubase at all for the time being...

Seriously? What an I missing? I dint see anything at all very interesting or new in this update...seems like a lot of catching up with other DAWS to me, nothing that makes me want to switch (back) from S1.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Also, how can a DAW that basically has 7-10 years of development lead on Studio One, in terms of feature implementation be "catching up" to it?
I used Studio One as a backup on my laptop because the Steinberg Dongle is flimsy. So, when I traveled I would often leave the Cubase Dongle in my workstation and use Studio One while doing so. That's the #1 reason why I'm dropping it.
Beyond that, Cubase Pro 12 does add a lot of great features:
1. Dolby Atmos Support (Coming Soon)
2. Nuendo's Crossfade Editor - Bests the one in Samplitude Pro X, for example. This is an amazing addition for people who do a lot of audio recording in a studio setting
3. MIDI Remove Integration - Makes setting up any MIDI Controller Trivial
4. VariAudio Scale Assistant
5. Audio-to-MIDI Chords - Including for Polyphonic Audio
6. Bluetooth MIDI Support (Windows)
7. Track-Level ARA Extensions
8. Logical Editor Improvements - Particularly in the realm of Usability. A lot of people that ignored this in the past may start using this.
9. Audio Warp Improvements
10. FX Modulator
11. Two Video Tracks

VST quick controls has been dropped and Rack controls use the motorized faders of Faderport (CC mode can still can be mapped to quick controls as previously with couple of clicking ) in Edit Plugins Mode, I would update just because of thisSLiC wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 6:00 pmSeriously? Upgraded and installed. The eLicenser servers didn't want to play ball and upgrade but the license has activated on my PC under the new licensing system. Is there any information on how this system will work with regard to things like operating system upgrades? I can see the license in my account online but I assumed there would be some way of removing the license from there, but I don't see one.

I can honestly say I see nothing there (as a S1 + Melodyne Studio user) that makes me want to go 'back' to Cubase, but if Cubase was my main DAW then I am sure I would upgrade (I always did from Pro24 to Cubase 8 when I dropped it and went Studio One). I am not in a pro studio and my needs are more then met by S1 which I just find easier to use...Trensharo wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 6:18 pmIf one look with closed eyes, they see nothing.SLiC wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 6:00 pmSeriously? That debatable and I don't want to derail this thread, bur being around longer doesn't necessary give you advantages, it often gives you a lot of old legacy code and outdate paradigms (and it was the Stenberg developers who left and wrote Studio One introducing things like 1 window workflow, ARA integration and drag and drop that Cubase later copied!).Trensharo wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 6:18 pm Also, how can a DAW that basically has 7-10 years of development lead on Studio One, in terms of feature implementation be "catching up" to it?
Bitwig has the same issue (being Ableton Devs that eft), it a much younger company that Ableton but in many ways the software is for more 'modern' and advanced as they were able to start with a fresh code base and no 'legacy' and backwards compatibility issues.

If you're upgrading in place (not a completely new install) then it should carry over. Personally, I wouldn't chance it, and would deactivate the license first.andrew71 wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 7:19 pm Is there any information on how this system will work with regard to things like operating system upgrades?
It has to be done via the Steinberg Activation Manager. There you will see your license, but it then has an extra option to deactivate..I can see the license in my account online but I assumed there would be some way of removing the license from there, but I don't see one.

I said "in terms of features implementation," written clearly in my reply.SLiC wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 7:35 pmThat debatable and I don't want to derail this thread, bur being around longer doesn't necessary give you advantages, it often gives you a lot of old legacy code and outdate paradigms (and it was the Stenberg developers who left and wrote Studio One introducing things like 1 window workflow, ARA integration and drag and drop that Cubase later copied!).Trensharo wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 6:18 pm Also, how can a DAW that basically has 7-10 years of development lead on Studio One, in terms of feature implementation be "catching up" to it?

Some features are easy to reproduce these days, as they are heavily solved problems with now-obvious solutions.
Cubase is like 2 decades older than Studio One if were going by product line age.
Product age was not even a factor in my reply... ...
You do realize Cubase u Derwent a fairly extensive rewrite long after it was on the market, right? There is no 1990s code in there, for the most part. Steinberg was also pretty early in dropping support for things like 32-biy code. They are pretty aggressive with that stuff, precisely to get ahead of "legacy" code accumulating within their code bases.
While users spew these talking points as they moan about Steinberg dropping VST2 support on M1 (Native) and marking it for death on Windows in their product lines (the irony)

For $850, I would hope Melodyne Studio could do it. But it works just as well in any other DAW.SLiC wrote: Wed Mar 02, 2022 7:26 pmI can honestly say I see nothing there (as a S1 + Melodyne Studio user) that makes me want to go 'back' to Cubase, but if Cubase was my main DAW then I am sure I would upgrade (I always did from Pro24 to Cubase 8 when I dropped it and went Studio One). Most of this stuff has nothing to do with a Pro Studio, but I wonder how many people who aren't even need an $850 Melodyne SKU.
People have been asking PreSonus for Surround Support and a video track for years. Chord Strumming was definitely a higher priority, though.

After 5 years, Cubase finally gets Studio One's chord track. That's what you've been waiting for?
Workflow still sucks though and takes 5 steps to to do what Studio One does in 1.
