If I must use DRM with an activation limit, let it please be iLok vs. anything else. I like not being able to lose my activations if my HD crashes.

I lost a computer-based iLok activation years ago when I reformatted a hard drive. I finally contacted the developer and got it reset. Most non-iLok computer based activations let you remove devices yourself from your User Account. iLok is the only one I know of that makes you jump through hoops to do it.
I don't really mind iLok, but all the iLok licenses that I still use support computer-based authorizations. I'm not going to bother with a physical dongle sticking out of my MacBook Pro in 2022.
I say iLok should have been ditched because everyone using it is a hostage to Pace. It's just a bad business model for the dependent developers who have ceded their development schedules to a 3rd party that has been slow to deliver.

I would expect the transition to happen a lot quicker now that there's no active development on eLicenser from Steinberg, and iLok is Apple Silicon native or release candidate ready.teilo wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 3:58 pmPresuming they ever finish the migration. It's been over a year since they announced it.machinesworking wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 3:30 amThey just got a huge customer with Vienna Ensemble Library who previously used eLicenser. ilok is not my least favorite CP though, that would be online call back licenses like Roli use for Equator etc.
Pretty much the only things left on my dongle are by choice. The last hardware only iLok license I have is the Raven MTi2 touch screen and software and the Vienna Ensemble Pro ethernet server. Nothing that I would care was on a physical dongle.jamcat wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 9:36 pm I'm not going to bother with a physical dongle sticking out of my MacBook Pro in 2022

Yeah, I walked away from my Slate plugins because they are dongle-only. I had some issues with IPV4 being fuxed on Windows that caused my Slate plugins to choke every time the dongle was called, which happens constantly, including every time you move a knob. I was using VCC and VTM, but Studio One CTC-1/Retro Mix Legends and IK Tape Machines made both obsolete.

Although it likely doesn't matter to you anymore, just an FYI that Slate's plugins now support ilok cloud. No more dongle needed.jamcat wrote: Mon Mar 07, 2022 5:26 am Yeah, I walked away from my Slate plugins because they are dongle-only.

Not for me.
I just checked my iLok License Manager, and my Slate stuff has the computer and iLok Cloud icons greyed out. Same for Exponential Audio, which I also ditched for good (because f*ck iZotope.)

Make sure your Slate plugins are updated to latest version (and obviously Ilok Manager as well). Ilok Cloud is definitely now supported. I use these plugins every day.jamcat wrote: Tue Mar 08, 2022 8:25 pmNot for me.

I don't have an Apple silicon machine yet but I was just taking a look at the list on the first page and I noticed that Waves is listed as having all of their plugins to now be Apple silicon.
Waves has a shit ton of plugins. If Waves has managed to migrate all of their plugins over to Apple silicon, then what excuse could anybody else possibly have?
I think that a good deadline for devs should be 2 years after the transition first began. If they haven't managed it by then, then that would seem like they don't care much about doing it.
That would mean summer 2022, June, around the same time when the Mac Pro is rumored to be released.

Agreed. My patience is running out. If your software isn‘t native by now, you don‘t care.
I‘ll just sell what ever is not native, when I get my Mac Studio by the end of the month. Time for a spring cleaning.

All of Waves plugins run on the same framework so it was easier for them to move over to Silicon. However, I'm pissed at how long it has taken to get even this far. I've never understood how small developers like Valhalla and Analog Obsession had M1 stuff ready to go within a few months and the big boys like Plugin Alliance (although imminent) and IK Multimedia T-Racks stuff haven't appeared. Oh, and iZotope deserve a mention here. RX9 is now Native but why they released it in October without M1 Native at launch I just can't understand.Synth Master Jedi wrote: Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:59 am I don't have an Apple silicon machine yet but I was just taking a look at the list on the first page and I noticed that Waves is listed as having all of their plugins to now be Apple silicon.

Heck, all developers should not even be releasing new plugins if they don't include a Native version from day 1.
