Launchpad X works fine here. It does not perform the Ableton Live specific functions, but sends notes and CC data as expected.

can it be used as a step sequencer with Waveform 11 free? (Waveform paid version has a step sequencer as part of the software, but I want to use an external hardware step sequencer)

I can't seem to get mine to MIDI learn any CCs. I made a custom control with the software that came with it with a bunch of undefined cc buttons to do things like zoom in and out of tracks and other things that come up in the MIDI learn mode but when it's waiting for the hardware to be moved, none of the pads seem to be recognized,

Do you have it's MIDI input tagged as a controller in the controller section of the settings tab?
